Is Walmart Bad For America?

I love Wal-Mart. A great American success story.
What Capitalism is all about. This anti Wal Mart
was started by the unions because they have been
unable to organize them. Picked up by the
liberals.

Funny. I'd say the majority of people that shop Walmart are liberals.

I do not shop at the local convenience stores with high mark-ups, highly trained and paid employees (Mom & Pop? Sure.) much more than I do at Walmart.

My local Walmart has good deals on somethings, but I do not consider them the low cost leader in my area. Just another store. I shop there occasionally, but they are not my go to store for most things.

There is a fascinating cross section of society that shops there, and my trips to the Super Center are usually quite interesting.

I bought four 60 watt equivalent LED light bulbs there yesterday for $5.00 plus tax. It was a good deal, but not what I went there for. Thoroughly enjoyed my interaction with the associate that asked if I needed help while I was staring at the LED light options.

I think Walmart is a good American company and that there is no need to boycott them unless you do not like to shop there for whatever your reason be.

This thread inspired me to stop in at my local Wally World today.

I bought a cassette adapter to play my iPhone podcasts through my old Explorer's sound system. The 13 buck one from Best Buy died, and the $4.97 one from Wal Mart is working fine. Both were made in China.

I bought some Blazer Brass 9mm, some sliced mushrooms, and a nice roast that is in the crockpot now. I don't think any came from China.

I'm pretty sure there isn't another place around where I could get that stuff in one stop.

I know the politically correct thing to do now is make fun of Wal Mart and (especially) the looks of the people who shop there. While I have been in some skeevy Wal Marts in the past, the one in my little Colorado town is very clean and the folks who work there are nice. (Almost everyone here is nice, by the way.) I saw a lot of older folks, plenty of young moms with kids, and pretty much the same people I see at the grocery store. Hell, I was probably the "Wal Mart-iest" looking person there.

Target used to sell guns and ammo but you can blame Michaele Moore and his movie "Bowling for Columbine". He paid several of the crippled kids who were shot in the Columbine School shooting in Colorado and took them to Target corporate headquarters with all his movie filming crew. Imagine the nation seeing all these crippled kids and fat butt Michaele camped out and asking the head honchos at Target what they are now going to do about gun violence since the shooters bought all their ammunition at a Target store. After much waiting a Target spokeswoman came out and said "from this point forward Target would no longer sell ammunition or guns". It was probably a good business decision for them at the time based on all the national publicity and public uproar over Columbine. I'm surprised Walmart still has the guts to sell guns and ammo with all the liability, and they have pulled all their AR-15s off the shelf but if there are a few more mass shootings and the press finds out the criminals happen to gets their weapons from Wallyworld we probably won't be able to buy our firearms and ammo there any longer.

Therein lies the problem, Walmart will do anything for a buck as long as they can get away with it.

A man with excellent taste in Flashlights!

I bought my first Malkoff M60's (for my SureFire's) in 2008, nothing but the best!

Would it be safe for me to assume that you are also a member at CPF?

You assume correctly. ;)

I have a Malkoff M61LL drop-in for my Surefire G3. Perfect long run time kitchen drawer household light.

Gene and his wife are the definition of a Mom & Pop business and make among the best flashlights money can buy for consumer use.
