I'm not a hunter and I'm new to guns... but I am also a very experienced IT guy, so just from a technological perspective, there are very few moving parts on a digital phone camera. The media storage is on flash memory, so it isn't affected by the shaking and G-forces of being in people's pockets and purses. While the shock of recoil is pretty abrupt, it's really not any different than dropping the phone on the floor. I'm guessing that you don't have to worry about it receiving too much shock because it is integrally secured to the rest of the rifle. The brunt of recoil should just transfer on through the butt end of the rifle like normal.

My suggestion would be to get an iPod Touch for this rather than using your cell phone. The cost isn't high and you won't be out a cell phone if it is somehow damaged. I purchased the original Touch when it came out and while mine doesn't have a camera installed, it has lasted for years. I have dropped it many, many times, have carried it in a backpack with tons of heavy books and a laptop, and it keeps on ticking. I would like to replace it but it just won't die and I can't justify the expense.

The new Touch models come with a great camera, ability to record video, much larger internal storage and the same reliability. All that, plus you can use it for surfing the web, browsing Facebook, playing games, keeping contacts, email, etc. iPod touch - Buy iPod touch with Free Shipping - Apple Store (U.S.)

Yeah, that is a bit disturbing.

The idea of attaching cameras to personal weapons is probably going to become more popular and be implemented widely as miniaturization and lcd equipment evolves. Look what has happened to the photography industry in the last 10 years. Heck, even the Air Force uses the same tech for flying drones. The gun industry is a little behind the curve with the tech shift, but I expect they'll catch up pretty quickly. I'm not so sure it's a good thing.

I do like the idea of putting the smartphone together with a spotting scope. I might actually consider trying it out as it its a nice connivence to check where you hit the target.

I don't like how the company runs this down into a big game like they would sell Toys'R us items.

There have been a bunch of camera equipped scopes that are recoil actuated. I've never used one, but they are out there.

There is a sniper scope currently that shoots when it figures the gun is on target (I forget it's name).

I have a Go Pro on my rifle.

This is a nice idea, I am disturbed by the marketing, and the thought of putting the recoil impulse of a center fire round into my phone!

Was just wondering if any of you have seen this yet and what your opinion was? I would think for rimfire it could be kind cool but the recoil on center fire I'm not to sure?

iScope | Smartphone Adapter for your Scope

I have not used the device, but I did visit their website. It looks to me like it interferes with proper cheek position on the stock. Apart from filming your shooting or hunting shot, which you can do by attaching a camera to a rail mount elsewhere on the firearm, I am not sure what it gets you that a low power intermediate eye relief (IER) scout scope does not get you.

It gets you the magnified view from within the scope, whereas just a camera mounted elsewhere would not get you that point of view.

I just thought it was kinda cool if you want to record your target practice...I agree about the marketing and the eye placement. I don't think the recoil on a .22 would be bad on an iPhone. I also think the $ is a little steep for what it is. Just my .02

People are just going to start wearing Google Glass and record everything they do anyway.
