It finally Happened...

Got a local BBQ joint that has a big one gallon tip jar on the counter that was usually stuffed full by closing time. I asked one of the young ladies who worked there how much she made in tips in a day. NOTHING! The owner took them home each night. He said the girls made enough money without the tips. He is often seen at the Gulf Coast casinos. I won't eat there anymore.

Is the food any good? If yes, why not eat there? No one says you have to put anything in the jar.

Took my one Dell laptop to Best Buy to get Window 10 or whatever installed-the computer is too old.

I have three different 10 year old laptops at the house that were were too old/not supported by the manufacturer for Windows 10. All three of them run Win10 just fine. My Acer VA70 laptop after updating to a extra SSD HDD and adding some used memory and better cpu off Ebay runs as good or better than any of the newer laptops/tablets I had for work before I retired last year. Cost me about $100 and some of my time. There are ways around much of this stuff.

Nobody who is into Mexican food goes to Taco Bell.:D

The boys like Taco Bell so we keep it in the carry out rotation. I always manage to find something palatable there. It's not hard.

Taco Bell is just fine. Makes it into our infrequent take out type food rotation.
Not looking for authentic Mexican, just an alternative to Pizza, burger, chicken, whatever.
The one place we avoid at all cost is KFC since the grilled chicken disappeared from the menu.

A disgruntled ex employee could call the nearest office of the IRS and report that. As a now retired Asst. US Attorney once told me in a different context, disgruntled ex employees are a valuable source of information.

I find the technology superior to humans. I like not ever having to go to a bank and I'm coming around to apps/kiosks for fast food. It saves you time. It saves you money, because they have free stuff in the apps you can't get from a human.

Most of all, I have minimum interaction with humans which I mostly find a frustrating waste of time.

I hate those sales kiosks, except when visiting non-english speaking countries.

So, you've been to Newark, NJ recently I take it? ;)
Was thinking of the first of those kiosks I ever saw, at a McD in France. I posted about it here a few years ago. A big help, considering the menu differences and language barrier.

I haven't been in a McDonald's since my son was small. He like to climb on the play equipment with other kids. I hated going there, and I no longer need to.

I have paid via a table mounted kiosk at Olive Garden (my son's current favorite place) a couple of times. It's easier (and probably safer) than giving your card to the waiters. Other places I eat are mostly mom and pop places where you still pay at an old fashioned register by the door.

Went into McDs the other day

Used the kiosk
Picked out what I wanted, swiped my card.
Less than 2 minutes later I was handed my hot fresh order with a large container for my coke.
What an awful experience!!!

When the kiosk stops functioning, we are all gonna die a slow miserable death.
Same with the cash register.

I am surprised that this point has not been raised before now. Kudos to CalifEd!!

In all of the situations already described, the basic premise still remains unresolved or corrected. Far too many of our young people do not have basic math skills and knowledge. Additionally, they are highly (if not totally) reliant on technology and automation that includes these kiosks.

There is also a total reliance on electrical power to operate these electronic devices. In the Atlanta area we have ice storms (no matter how infrequent), tornadoes, hurricanes, power outages, etc. When there is a power outage all of the electronics cease to operate, and if the employees cannot "get back to the basics of life" (Merle Haggard ?) it all stops. We have already had this happen before in our area.

On a 21 hours straight through drive from western IA back to eastern MA a McDonalds was the only thing open on the NY Thruway in the middle of the night.

I was desperate for coffee and bought a cup. It was very, very good. It was also very, very hot.

That was after years of them working to improve their truly rancid coffee. About 2010.

It's not at the top of my list for coffee stops, but I certainly wouldn't say no.

I've done enough road trips to know that Pilot has better coffee, but Loves has cleaner restrooms. In NJ, I used to like WaWa coffee, but I never go there any longer.

Big truck stop coffee tends to be better than smaller places, likely because they have to brew it more often.

Worst coffee was in Hope, AR. In a gas station/convenience store that had a wedding dress for sale. No, I'm not making that up.

For the USA, quite often it has the best coffee available in an area. In Europe, it's coffee is even better.
