TheShootist1894 outdid himself for me and the gun he calls a
Smith 64 'Airweight' Custom, Semi-Fitzed Snubby
has arrived!

His pictures are better than mine so I'll use his - a range report will appear soon!

Oh, I should note - it's all steel, and Cerkoted - but the barrel is from a blown up Model 12 so it says Airweight. Kind of hilarious in my view. ;)

When I think of it I'll post the serial number and then it will be a known gun and nobody will ever be able to pass it off as a factory quirk. Not that anyone knowledgeable wouldn't know but, just in case, I'll go public.

Remember, this gun started out as a beat up, double action only, bobbed hammer, 4" barrel, re-import, with the worst trigger imaginable. You see it now all modified and sexy and business-like with a great trigger, relieved trigger guard (thus "semi-fitzed"), Senior Chief anchor engraving, opened rear sight - just SAWEEEET!

Thank you Shootist1894!

Looks nice! Got any pics from before? Sounds like a remarkable transformation

That is pretty nice and I agree with the aspect of having your own design and personalization.

I have kicked around getting something done for years and just ordered a model 64 LE trade in to use because of this thread and a couple others I have seen.

Enjoy.

Too bad you didn't make Master Chief!
Two stars are better then one......

Yeah, but even numbered Chiefs are the best! :D

Beautiful revolver but the USN and anchor engraving is the iceing on the cake

Exactly why I had him do that - having all that quality work done and not personalizing it just didn't seem quite right to me.

Tomorrow I shoot it!

Very nice ,
Quick question how sure are you that he used your original cylinder?
IIRC the Model 12 has a longer cylinder thats actually the same length as a Model 19-5 cylinder and the Model 12 barrel has a shorter forcing cone to mate to it.
While a Model 10/64 barrel forcing cone could be shortened to work with a Model 12 cylinder the Model 12 barrel cannot be "stretched" to mate with a Model 10/64 cylinder.

Because he would have told me if he had to replace the cylinder. Actually, I wouldn't care if he changed the cylinder as long as it was steel and not an alloy but the subject never came up so I have to presume it's the original cylinder.

But since you asked I'll ask him and we shall see what he says.

That is a stunning transformation, Chief, and the stocks are pretty nice too!!! Congratulations on a great, practical handgun. Please post a range report!! Thanks for sharing.

Best Regards, Les

As I said in the other thread, that is a great gun. It's nearly what I would consider my dream snub.

I should've asked this in the other thread, but would you mind sharing what kind of grips those are? I really like the shape.

I wish I could answer that but I cannot. They're after market, of course, and were on the gun, badly fitted, when I got it. Shootist1894 fit them onto the gun better and made them shine!

I really like the way they feel in my hand and with the checkering on the backstrap they feel even better than you might imagine - range report coming soon!
