After pocket packing my Shield for 2 years I switched this morning to the Taurus stainless TCP 380 and going from 24.1 oz loaded to 12.1 oz loaded has never felt so good. I miss the XS Big Dot night sights on my Shield 9mm and I am sure when I get to the range with my mouse gun it will kick like a mule but there will always be a tradeoff and comfort is important but I don't think I will loose too much in balistic performance when I load up with Lehigh rounds. The denium and gel tests are amazing with the Lehigh 380 and the Taurus TCP feeds the round just fine from Youtube videos.

Your post reads as if you haven't even fired your new gun yet, but you are carrying it anyway.
I hope you never need your gun to defend yourself anyways, but I really hope you don't need to rely on a gun you don't know works or not.

Also, don't base your opinion of what to expect from your gun on YouTube videos. Do your own tests and let the gun/ammo combination prove itself.

Ditto... Especially with Taurus' reported (across the board) reliability issues. :(
Plus... it's hard to compare the weight of a loaded 9mm to the weight of a .380 mouse gun, but if weight is a deciding factor in changing caliber, so be it.

I hope your new Taurus is reliable.

I went the other direction and put my LCP in the safe and strapped a Shield to my side.

The increase in power and capacity never felt so good.

I am reminded of Clint Smith's statement to the effect that guns are meant to be comforting, not necessarily comfortable.

No way I would carry a .380 as my primary gun. Backup to a Shield, ok. After 30 years of carrying as a LEO and a CCW holder, I decided .38 spec./9mm was as small as I would go.

I had a Taurus .380. Pure junk. Jamo-matic from the first magazine. Put the obligatory 200 rounds through it and it didn't get better. Got rid of it shortly thereafter, took a bath but told the buyer about the problem.

Now have a Sig P238 that is light years better than the Taurus.

Hillbilly

Good point testing before I pack.

I guess I need to take the rest of the day off. Better safe than sorry :)

Sucks that yours gave you trouble. Mine had one fail to feed in the first couple 100 rounds and has been perfect since. Can't say I'd blame it on the gun though as it was filthy at the time.

I had a tcp and never had an issue with it...after I added the pinkie extension and the hogue grip. Very snappy to shoot. Hope you have luck finding an extra mag..... I wouldn't use pro mag...Traded sold it and got the shield 9. Will never go back

So you took a gun you knew worked and you knew how to shoot out of your pocket, replaced it with something you have never shot and don't know if it goes bang and that felt good?
