Watched a movie last night and {feeling fine} headed off to read at 8. About 15 minutes later when I stood up I had serious pain, lower right abdomen. It got worse and spread to my lower back {right side}. It quickly became excruciating and I puked my guts out.

Now I haven't blown chunks for any reason for 10+ years and began to worry thinking perhaps my appendix might be the problem given the initial pain site. I did the "suck it up Buttercup" bit for nearly an hour as things continued to deteriorate finally giving up and driving myself {accompanied by my bride} 2 miles to the local ER.

They put in an IV and hooked me up to a liter of fluid, added a shot of anti nausea meds and Morphine for the pain which by now was off of the charts. Took several vials of blood and they rushed those off to the lab followed by a CT Scan.

After 2 hours I got the good/bad news... I have a 5 mm kidney stone but it had migrated about halfway out {which was the source of the intense pain over the previous 3 hours}. They called in a prescription for Oxicodone {20 - 5 mg} and sent me home with a 10 mg Percocet to get me through the night as the local pharmacy was closed.

Now I wait. With a little luck it will pass naturally but was warned that the timing was anybodies guess and to expect pain like sin. Other than that... {Mrs Lincoln, how did you like the play?"}.

Film at eleven.

Sorry to hear that. Ruthie was born with a deformed horseshoe kidney and is prone to stones. She has endured many stents, lithotripsies and passings of boulders.

Her sheer misery during one of these events is one of the most agonizing things for me to watch.

When the attacks come on she has her PCP call in phenergan suppositories. They help control nausea, pain and are a sleep aid.

Praying that you deposit that rock quickly.

Prayers and best wishes Steve.

Had a 10mm stone a while back. Took about 3 hours from kidney to bladder. I've never found the words to describe the pain. Ambulance ride with 2 rounds of morphine. Located in bladder via CT scan. Discharged from ER.

Broke up in my bladder, so I survived. I hope you're as fortunate.

Sorry you're going through this. It really hurts.

I've been to the hospital twice with stones. One at age 19, one a few years ago. I have the horseshoe shaped kidney, also. About 25 years ago I had one but I drank a ton of cranberry juice and at the bar gin & cranberry. Seemed to help it pass. God awful pain when it's between the kidney & bladder. Good luck, and really, 5mg Oxycodone are not very strong. I can't believe that's all they gave you. But keep them in your system in the time frame they gave you and it will help.
Actually, I CAN believe it. Doctors are scared of the opiate abuse and don't want you hitting the streets for heroin!

BTDT. My D-in-L just had surgery on her kidney for stones. Anyone who hasn't had one (yet) cannot understand how painful they can be.

Been dealing with Kidney Stones since 2006, I'm what's known as a gravel pit. Been through 6 Lithotripsies and 2 surgeries. I was in your shoes in November of 2019. I live alone and didn't want to take the chance of passing out from the pain while driving myself to the ER so I called 911. Wound up in local ER for 6 hours then transferred into surgery in another Hospital so my Urologist could go in and remove that stone and another that had blocked the other Kidney. A temporary stent was placed in each Ureter to help facilitate passage of any other stones they missed.

I now know where the term, p------- razor blades comes from.

My Urologist told me his female patients have told him that having a Kidney Stone get stuck is more painful than child birth. He also told me some woman have been known to voluntarily get pregnant a second time, even knowing what childbirth is going to feel like. However he has NEVER had a woman asked to pass another Kidney Stone after going thru it once before.

I wish you the best of luck. Once they get the stone analyzed you might be able to reduce the incidence by altering your diet and through some simple medications.

I've had them and I wouldn't wish kidney stones on my worst enemy!

Here's a piece of advice - DO NOT get behind on your pain meds, even if you think you are feeling OK at the time. I guarantee that all of those who have had kidney stones are all nodding in agreement right now... :D

And here's a friendly warning - as painful as kidney stones are (and they are BAD in all caps), if they put in a stent to hold open your ureter (the tube that leads from your kidney to your bladder) the pain you will feel when they yank that b!tch out will dwarf all of it. I cannot overstate this. Fortunately, it won't last long - only a few moments.

Good luck and heal fast!

Hope the best for you! I have been down that road several times. The last stone I had I was underground in one of the company's mines logging core from a drill and was passing pure blood.I got home and I had a 26 mm diameter stone-----to the lithotripter!!!

Lots of women eventually forget childbirth pain and want to have more babies. I've never heard of anyone wanting a second kidneystone.
Best of luck to you for an easy passage.

I remember as a young man pulling up to pick up a Deputy. Strapping young man, saw him survive several encounters in the street that would stop most men cold.
He had a stone. He was in a fetal position, on the floor, laying in his own excretement. Begging for someone to shoot him. Big dose of IV morphine did nothing.
It is women's revenge for men not experiencing childbirth.
