It's my wife's fault. She made me do it!

I stopped at the LGS a week or so ago to get some primers. On the way out, I spotted a blue box in the "if you have to ask, you can't afford it" case. On top of that box, was a VERY nice, Modell 18-2, with target hammer, trigger, and diamond target stocks. The box in question numbered to the gun, and verified the target stocks came with the gun. No other papers though.

They wanted a pretty penny for it. I don't blame them, if I had been selling it, I would have too. They offered me a discount. I got them to "hold" it for me while I thought about it. The next morning I called and told them I wasn't going to get it. No problem. It went back on the shelf and I figured I'd never see it again.

But it was still there yesterday. Like a puppy that picks you out, it seemed determined it was going home with me. The discount still stood, so I threw some money at it and put it on layaway.

If it has been fred outside the factory, it hasn't been very often. S/N dates it to 1965. I would have been in the 8th grade.

Cell phone pictures from before it went off to layaway purgatory.

My wife said "Just get the blinking thing so I don't have to listen to you whine about it anymore." See....it was HER fault.

Oh. The damage? Well, it was tagged at $1150. But my wife did ask me..."Seen one like it for less lately? (No) Expect to see another one anytime soon?" (No) Turning my own words against me.

Yes, a pretty penny. But I've seen M18s in far worse condition priced much higher at shows over the last couple of years. And an M18 in that condition, 3Ts and the original box? Not something often seen... in fact, I can't remember the last time I saw an M18 for sale on a gun shop shelf.

I think you did just fine.

Some of us have great wives, for many reasons.

I stopped by the LGS three years ago to see what they had. In the case was a brand new Python 4.25” and at a discount. I had a new blue late 70’s 6” and sold it after enjoying it for 30 years but later regretted it. Well I mentioned the new one to my wife and she said, you just retired and you deserve to get it. Well it didn’t take ten minutes and I was back at the shop filling out paperwork.

My wife is also my enabler. Wether it’s a gun, a boat, a car , a truck u name it. I’ll mention it to here. And she’ll ask “are you gonna buy it”? And when I start himming and hawing she’ll say “ I don’t want to hear about it when someone else buys it”. I guess I’m thrifty at heart. Although she calls me cheap.

OP that’s a beauty. Congrats.
My 18-3 came with target hammer and trigger which is correct per the box. Should have had service stocks on it but it had combats. I have a nice set of walnut magna stocks on it now. (I stand corrected). The box is marked “S” for stocks so I assume that meant “service” ?

CajunBass aces me out again!!!!

CajunBass: Ya got me again!!!! I know we live, shop, compete in the same local arena for these fine S&W's that come up every time "You know who" at GT goes out of town for a few days to pickup estate guns.

That is a real sweet one and I did see it while you were hemming and hawing evidently, so last Monday I was going to head over and snag that right out from under you....guess what....all of a sudden, couldn't breathe, chest restricted, felt like elephant sitting on me, wife called 911, crash wagon shows up EMT says "big time heart attack" and off to Regional Memorial we go.:( I just got discharged,:D can't do diddly for a few weeks but thought wonder if that beauty is still there....NOPE.

Anyway....don't want to hijack your thread so congratulations on that beauty and until we meet again at the counter....sheesh!!! that is a great place, best since I retired 5 year ago and can get there quick these days.:D

Great find OP! The Model 18 is my favorite revolver. I have two 18-3s and one of them is almost always with me on every range trip. You're gonna love your's. :D
And take good care of that lady. Women like that are a rare find too. ;)

Different Question

But my wife did ask me..."Seen one like it for less lately? (No) Expect to see another one anytime soon?" (No) Turning my own words against me.

"How long will you look. How many miles will you drive. How much gas will you use. All looking for one priced at the $25 less, you are offing?"

Bought it.

I hate going in there. I bought 4 in less than a month. But I’ll probably go back again this month. Nice gun.
Cmans take care of yourself. I’m in the zipper club and the pacemaker club.

If you are talking about the lighter colored stocks, those are Magnas not Service stocks.

You have to admire wives like that. Do you at least let her fire it?

My wife talked me into a birth year revolver I had initially passed on purchasing. Same logic, “have you seen another one?” “Do you have one?” Etc. Yes, I share your burden!

Kevin

Of course she can shoot it. She has a rule. What's mine is mine. What's yours is mine also. :D
