It doesn't end with one federal judge's ruling. The appeals will continue.
 
But the Gov. says they will re-write the law to allow people to use 10 round clips........of course you still can only have 7 rounds in them. It appears those extra 3 bullets somehow constitute a threat to the public, but I haven't yet heard an explanation from the lawmakers. Happy New Year.
 
Yea, do not get caught with more than 7 in the mag, class A misdemeanor.
 
I found one of Skretny's quotes particularly cryptic:

“It does not totally disarm New York’s citizens,” he said, “and it does not meaningfully jeopardize their right to self-defense.”

Bold and italicize the word "totally" ... To me this reads as clever legal-speak translated as, "Be happy that we haven't banned all firearms in civilian hands."
 
What a waste of a year! So disappointed that logic and common sense cannot prevail...

How can that moron judge say that the seven round limit is unconstitutional because a criminal won't follow it but also insinuate that a criminal will not use any other weapon that is included in that unconstitutional law?

There's a saying that goes something like " the difference between God and a judge is that God doesn't believe he is a judge, whereas most judges seem to believe, or at least act, as if they are God. " Sorry to offend any of you out there that are on the bench, but I've seen more twisted behavior by the courts than I care to recall.
 
if you live in new york, its not too hard to believe the judiciary both state and federal is riddled with corruption. decisions are torturously crafted to fit political or ideological concerns.

Ladder, Maine Beckons.

The number of people I know that are felons has tripled in the past year. All of them are from NY and NJ.

Some of them are flagrant, others don't even know it yet...
 
A couple moths ago I read that they were delaying the the ammo background because they didn't have the computer infrastructure to handle it (I guess having ammo is like health insurance in more ways than one:D). Anyway.... Can you still buy online after the 15th?

No, and in fact many online retailers have already stopped as of Jan 1. In effect, they don't need the infrastrucure as they've achieved their goal.
 
Never underestimate the ingenuity of Americans. So the judge says that quickly inserting a mag into a rifle that contains only 1 "evil" feature constitutes an "assault weapon".
So now a few companies have come out with a device, called MR2 I believe, that allows you to "fix" the mag in place. The device allows a change of mags by opening the action and removing the mag, inserting a new one, closing it up ad getting back in action. It's actually kind of quick, and allows these guns not to be registered or declared illegal, at least until the court challenges run their course.
Oh the irony :), this "fix" allows the guns to HAVE all the evil features that they banned since having a fixed mag no longer makes the weapon classified as an "assault weapon". Reminds me of the 1994 ban when the manufacturers adapted.
So NY goes from fixed stocks, no flash suppressor, etc to having all those features(collapsible stocks, flash hiders, etc) now LEGAL.
Here's the device. Is it perfect? Of course not. BUT, it keeps the guns out of any database until this goes to the Supremes.

just to give you an idea of what we are dealing with we have a district attorney in central ny saying that the striking down of the 7 round limit only affects western ny in that federal judge's district and the limit will still be enforced in central ny. so one section of the state it will be legal to load to 10 and in central ny no. the rest of the state who knows. the only consoling part of all of this is that Andrew Cuomo has insured that he will never be president by his own doing.
 
MR2 looks like a great alternative.

The ammo purchase scheme sounds like it has the potential to be brutal on price and availability if Internet sellers won't even ship to NY. I figured you'd at least be able to buy on the Net and ship to a registered ammo dealer, then pay a fee to the ammo dealer like a gun transfer. What a mess....
 
Just getting started...

This is the first of the freedoms. A friend of mine refused a flu shot a couple of days ago and her doctor told her it isn't official yet but soon if you refuse a doctors "preventative treatment", they will have to refuse to see you anymore. Also, at the pediatrician they are now asking among their list of questions..."Do you have firearms in the home?". This is in Missouri boys and girls!
I am not a, the sky is falling person, but get ready to fight and invest in our freedoms, all of them, because they are coming for them.
