It's the 2% that worry me.

Ok, not really on topic, but I will say I am not the tiniest but shy about minding others business when at my gun club.

Nearly every visit, I see safety violations. Actually, about the only times I don’t see some is when I have one of the ranges to myself.

And there’s no excuse. Everyone goes through orientation, and the freakin rules are posted right there on the range. Detailing by firearm type what condition your weapon must be in before anyone goes down range.

Last visit I returned from down range and went to pick up the range clear flag, lo and behold, there’s the muzzle of a Yugo Mauser, bolt closer & cocked, pointed at my groin.

I’m sure I embarrassed the heck out of the young man in front of his friend & girl friend, but hopefully that made the lesson sink in.

All it takes is one accident to ruin it for everybody, not to mention ruin lives.

Responsibility

I hope this opinion of our society, is not deemed political. My observations of the actions of the last couple of generations of today's society, both in gun ownership, and their use, also in their ownership of vehicles, and their use, I will sum up thusly. A large number of our society's members are illegal aliens, irresponsible people, senile people, and a few responsible people. Most of their actions are horrendous to me! In fact I'v quit going to the range to shoot, and drive my vehicles as little as possible. Today's nasty, hateful, irresponsible people, cannot understand responsibility, because they have never experienced it. They are oblivious to the fact that there are laws and rules that pertain to them. For an example, In the era that my generation grew up in, I never knew of a hit, and run accident, nowadays there is seldom, any other kind, of "Accident". Whom do we blame for our children's lack of responsibility? Why, ourselves! We have always protected them from it by, taking care of their troubles for them. Sadly i am afraid that all of our discussions, theories, and ideas to help the situation, can go on "till The Cows Come Home" and it won't amount to a "Hill Of Beans"! I don't think We can "Fix It". Sorry for my Terrible, but true, feelings. Now, folks, PLEASE, for my sake also, prove me wrong.

Two of the worse things available to our 2nd Amendment enemies are 1) Internet gun forums; and, 2) YouTube.

Internet gun forums show that most (a high per centage) of us are intelligent, law abiding citizens. However, we have a large number of chest thumpers who try to make themselves look tough (tuff) by making stupid comments that are held against us as a group.

YouTube has created an environment wherein every moron who can record himself can also present himself, a) as an expert; and, b) representative of the gun culture.

Senile? SENILE, you say! I represent that remark.

I'm afraid that I have to disagree with you. I joined a nice, new commercial indoor range a few months ago. When I first became seriously interested in the shooting sports in about 1970, there were few women, or minorities involved in the shooting sports. Now, just about every time (once a week or more frequently) I go to the indoor range, there are women coming and going, along with African Americans (both male and female). I can only attribute this to information technology. People who once thought that guns were for old, white, right-wingers, are finding out that people of all kinds were and are shooting guns and having fun. Owning guns and shooting are becoming mainstream. As a side note, the local gun clubs in this area still have almost no women or people of color. One other thing I think helps is that where once dads and uncles introduced young people to shooting (for better or worse) now there is decent training available for those who were never introduced to firearms.

I actually agree with you BE Mike, 100%; but, I don't think what I posted and what you posted are mutually exclusive.

Well, dunno about some purported or mythical 2% ... but ... if you watch people drive on the roadways and operate shopping carts in store aisles, your wishful thinking of the low numbers of people who can't seem to use common sense and good judgment when handling equipment in public might be really, really, really optimistic. ;)
