You are correct, they can produce a good grip at less cost than a solid piece of ivory.

I'm rather pleased with the results, even though they are nowhere near as attractive as some of the Ivory stocks in this thread.

They look superb to me. I don't think there is any unattractive ivory. Now, some of the carved ivory may be more attractive, but it is ALL good!
