Model 642-2 because I needed a backup gun to replace a nickel-plated Model 37ND with sights I couldn't see. I ended up swapping the Model 37ND for a 2 inch Model 12-2. I bought the Model 642-2 because I walked into a S&W factory sale at the LGS & range. All the J-Frames (438/442) were $399.99 while the 642-2s were $324.99. I said I'd take the 642-2, and the guy behind the table said, "Pick a box." Confused, I just picked up the top box. He said, "Open it." Really confused, I did and found a $100.00 off store coupon. Walked out with the 642-2 for $254 and change after taxes.
It now belongs to my granddaughter of the tiny hands who is a USMC corporal.
The 2 inch Model 12-2 dates to 1963, became my backup, & is my current EDC.
