J-Frame Show & Tell

Safe Queens are cool, too. This one has the box, paperwork and tools. Maybe I'll shoot it some day.

@Rubi Ranch...

I've gotta get a half dozen of those "Zeta6 Speed Loaders" you posted. That is such an ingenious design... so utilitarian and simple with no knobs to twist or pull. They may even be almost as quick for a reload as a True Moon Clip!

And they are VERY affordable to boot. :)

I was about 10 when i asked my dad if I could get (my first) ever gun magazine; a mid 1990s issue of Guns Magazine featuring the Smith & Wesson 640 in .357 mag (I have the issue stored away somewhere but can't remember the exact date.)

That, along with the Kahr K9 (new at the time) became the two handguns I wanted most and hoped to have one day.

It wasn't until 2019 that I would pick up my first J frame.

It was a used 642pc in the consignment rack at my favorite shop. I used it for my first IDPA Match last year; wasn't fast by any means but it sure was a blast. The five shots was limiting but was nonetheless absolute fun.

A couple of months ago I was in the shop just to say hi and see what they had mid-pandemic, and they had a consigned 340 on the back counter.

I've yet to shoot it but am already wondering if I should get some Culina boot grips for it...and maybe some rubber ones too.

Still have no early .357 640 though. Same for a K9...

One day.

I got my first J frame 36 to carry in my cowboy boot during an undercover assignment. I got my most recent one from a friend who had bought it from another friend. It's blue and I thought it would be fun to have, blue, nickel, and stainless. Two are pictured here.

Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) 50th Anniversary Commemorative, 1981. MSHP logo on this side.

On this side stamped by the factory (I think) is MSHP 858 to indicate badge number. This gun was carried and came to me just as you see it.

Got it because I like J frames and snubbies and especially because I have a relative working for the MSHP.

Nostalgia?

Yeah, that's part of it.

Mamo, my Mom's Mom, taught me to shoot her 2" Model 31 Regulation Police when I was seven years old in 1959. Granted, it was an I-frame, and I have one just like it from 1958.

That's what started me on Chiefs. I'm a retired CMSgt (Chief Master Sergeant) and I call my affliction OCD (Old Chiefs Disease). A dozen Baby Chiefs, six from my 1952 birth year, lead off my hoard of more than 40 Chiefs, spanning serial number 72 from 1951 through an ANIB Model 36-9 from 1998.

My latest two are a Model of 1953 Airweight and a 1989 Model 60-3.

J-Frames are my favorite. At present I have a bobbed 37, Two 442s (carried daily) and a 3" 36 that is close to perfect. This picture doesn't show how nice the blueing is.

This is my first snubby. A Smith and Wesson 637 .38 Special, rated +p, SA/DA revolver for my EDC. First time at the range with it I shot 300 rounds through it. I did pretty good once I got used to it. The target picture is from the very first shots ever fired from this snubby. The other gun the bottom of the last picture is an old Iver Johnson hammerless circa 1916.
