I picked up the model 10-5 today that I ordered last Wednesday from J&G. I chose the higher priced standard barrel that they graded VG. To say that I was disapointed would be an understatement. Mechanically it is OK with good timing and tight lockup. It was clean inside but cosmetically it looked like it has been tied with barbed wire and dragged it from New York to Prescott. The backstrap, butt and trigger guard look like they are stippled. If these are VG I would hate to see the others. The grips hit the trash withing seconds. I am looking for a remote place to store these at present.

I do feel good though just knowing that J&G hires the visually impaired. If I ever have a need to rob a liquor store I will at least have a gun that I can throw in the river.

Caveat Emptor, I have learned my lesson well, I will never buy another gun that I can't hold in my hand first. I hope your experience was better.

Sorry to read you had this issue. I have bought many guns sight unseen and generally had good luck. Course I have not yet bought from this vendor. I would hope one bad experience would not keep you from enjoying your hobby:) Kyle

Sorry to hear that you were not satisfied. I have had several dealings with J&G (not guns) with total satisfaction. Have you contacted them and expressed your concerns? It is very possible that they would be willing to swap out the gun for one less cosmetically challenged. It can't hurt to give them a call.:D

I purchased a nice 28-2 from J&G at the store a few years ago. It was better than described on the website. They seem like decent folks. Give them a call.

I bought a p64 from them a few years ago that was in probably never shot condition. gun works great. but I never shoot it these days. .. I have always been a little concerned with their trade in revolvers. I hope your experience was just a fluke and that they can exchange for something a little easier to look at. thanks for the post because I was seriously considering ordering one. let us know how it turns out if you to attempt an exchange.

Boy ...I am afraid. I have one coming and it is the good to very good condition. That is all they had left in the standard barrel version. It is probably worse than yours. It may be 179.00 thrown away. Oh well win some lose some.

post pics of your M 10 if you can....but I agree with everyone else, call J&G and give them a chance to make it right first.....they deserve a chance to give you some customer service...

it doesn't seem proper to bash a company publicly without first contacting them, explaining your concerns and giving them a chance to earn your satisfaction.

I purchased a S&W model 64-5 NY-1 trade in revolver from J&G over a year ago. since then I have fired about 2000 rounds with it. she may not be the prettiest girl at the dance, but the reliability and accuracy doesn't get any better.

You are so right, I really did not mean to trash them, I just wanted to give a report on the gun I received. VG is such a subjective evaluation. When you buy a gun sight unseen you take your chances and I do understand that. Like I said, I won't buy another from anyone without seeing it first.

Here are two photo's but I don't think they will show enough detail. It looks like it was peened all over with a welders hammer. Mechanically though it is pretty good and I am positive it will shoot.

I bought a model 64 from J&G a while back and it is now one of my favorite revolvers. I would echo those who suggest letting J&G know about your disatisfaction.

J&G Model 10

Yep. she's a little rough but if the gun is okay mechanically the price sounds fair to me.

Looking at Smiths locally at gun shows prices for cosmetically nice revolvers are out of sight.

Used to be able to get a nice K-frame for $200 but that was like 10 years ago. Or maybe longer.

Try it out and if she shoots okay maybe try a little polishing and some cold blue - at least you'll never have to worry about adding another scratch!

And there's nothing sadder than dropping a nice looking revolver in the driveway and putting a big gouge in it!

I agree with the above. That's what I would expect an ex-cop gun priced at $179 to look like.

What were you expecting?

I see this two ways......
It doesn't look like VERY good describes it very well.....
However, it looks exactly like a $180 buck x cop gun....

+1 on that, if it's mechanically good I would call below $200 for a solid Model 10 a steal.

It looks like a security guard duty gun after years of daily carry in a holster, getting bashed off things, and being stored in unpadded metal lockers. Which is where J&G got these Model 10's, they are all security trade-ins. I know everyone wants to be the guy who gets the one that sat in the arms locker and was never used or carried for $179, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I have worked armed security and trust me, the firearms they use are not treated very well.

If it weren't for $25 a piece transfer fees, plus the fact that I have enough "shooter" grade stuff, I would buy 3 or 4 at that price.

You should see some of the things I buy

I supose your #10 could be considered VGC, considering it was a former LEO/security firearm.

S&W #48-4, $100.00
