Went to the RedBox to rent a couple flicks for the wife and I
to watch tonite together. She prefers comedies so i got one
of each of Action and Comedy. I have been wanting to see the
Jack Reacher movie so for $1.20 whats to lose right?
I thought it was a pretty good movie with good plot and action
throughout. Even kept the wife awake for the whole thing and
thats hard to do if she loses interest in any movie.
Well written and acted and only drawback is i would have liked
to have seen Robert Duvals character introduced earlier in.
Good looking guns and reloading sequence at the beginning.
Seemed pretty true to life with no real glaring mistakes on
the shooters side of watching a movie. But i never really try
to pick apart a shooting sequence unless it is something
way off base like a bad guy getting shot by a .40 and getting lifted off his feet and flying backwards 10 yards. Uggghhhh
What did you guys who saw it think?

P.S. Loved the Chevelle SS he was driving towards the end.

I have read all of Lee Childs Reacher books, and I'm definitely a fan; he can write. When I heard TC was to be lead, I was let down, but we finally rented it, and I was pleasantly surprised. They stuck pretty close to the book, and TC was good in it.

Reacher is a hell of a shot, I will say that... especially at the end when he nails that dude holding the lawyer hostage... ;)

(I'm just not a big Tom Cruise fan...)

The wife and I are not normally TC fans, but our son recently came for a visit, brought the movie and said "You gotta see this!" So we watched it and, yes, it's a very good movie. Even ended up watching it a second time in the week that the son was here.

I own all of Lee Child's books, and I was very upset when I heard that Tom Cruise was cast to play Jack Reacher. In fact, I vowed that I wasn't going to see the movie. However, my middle son was visiting, and he wanted to see it...plus, he offered to pay if I'd go with him, which is a major milestone around here (the paying part) So, I went to see it with him, not expecting anything. I was very pleasantly surprised.

I don't have anything against Tom Cruise, his wacky religion aside...in fact, I enjoy a number of his movies. What did upset me was that in every book, Jack Reacher is explicitly described as a huge man, 6'5" and extremely strong, and his size and physical capabilities play an integral part in just about every situation (he is also very intelligent, so there is that too.)

I was really dreading seeing Cruise standing on a box or something throughout the movie, but they didn't try to make him appear larger than he is (like they did with Michael Clarke Duncan in "The Green Mile.") He handled the action sequences very well, and all in all it was a great movie.

Lee Child even had a bit part in the movie...he is the desk sergeant when Reacher is being released from jail with his attorney; the scene where Reacher says there are three things cops never do (vote Democrat, drive Cadillacs, or use personal vehicles.)

I can't imagine Tom Cruise as Reacher... I guess they could have made it worse with Leonardo DiCaprio.

Just finished "The Enemy" where the beginnings of Jack Reacher are the basis of the entire book. Another good one.

I was surprised to learn a while ago that Childs is British.

Watched it on TV, was better than I would have thought. Thought the ending was a little weak.

I liked the movie, and was surprised how well TC played the role. I have read all the books, and thought TC was too small for the part. He physically isn't anything like how Reacher is described in the books. I think they picked the best book to make into a movie.

I still think Jim Cavezal (sp) would make a decent Reacher. His role in the series "Person of Interest" depicts the dark angel role that Reacher fills, and Jim is large enough to better fulfill the size requirements of the books, in my view.

Personally I think either Duane Johnson (The Rock) or Jason Statham would have been a good choice. There are any number of actors who would have come to mind long before Tom Cruise. I guess it's a credit to Cruise that he was able to make an enjoyable movie of this.

I enjoyed seeing Rosamund Pike walking around in high heels and little black dresses for most of the movie. Other than that it wasn't bad.

TC is probably better than say Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson for the part.

I've read most of the books, but didn't have much hope for the movie. Now I'm looking forward to it. Thanks!

I liked it. It was better than I thought it would be. Although Cruise wasn't bad in the role......I think Edward Norton ("American History X") or Thomas Jane ("The Punisher") would have been better.

Robert Duvall was terrific as always. It was a thrill to see Werner Herzog in an acting role. He made a very spooky villain with that accent & clouded eye:eek:

Now that would be interesting casting for a versatile actor... Caviezel was Jesus in "The Passion of The Christ".
