It's amazing the trivia you come across at 3am. I've heard of "salt of the earth". Now we have "salt of the wrist"?

Article here.
Japanese researchers have developed computerized chopsticks that enhance salty tastes, potentially helping those who need to reduce sodium in their diets.

Co-developed by Meiji University professor Homei Miyashita and beverage maker Kirin Holdings Co., the chopsticks enhance tastes using electrical stimulation and a mini-computer worn on a wristband.

The device uses a weak electrical current to transmit sodium ions from food, through the chopsticks, to the mouth where they create a sense of saltiness, said Miyashita.

"As a result, the salty taste enhances 1.5 times," he said....
Let's see, on this wrist I have my Apple watch and FitBit... I'll put the saline stimulator on the other wrist...

Oh, but there's more:
Miyashita and his lab have explored various ways that technology can interact with and stimulate human sensory experiences. He's also developed a lickable TV screen that can imitate various food flavors....
A LICKABLE TV SCREEN? The mind boggles...
The device, called Taste the TV (TTTV), uses a carousel of 10 flavour canisters that spray in combination to create the taste of a particular food. The flavour sample then rolls on hygienic film over a flat TV screen for the viewer to try.

Onomea, we will expect an in-person report the next time you're in Japan.

Well, um, in Japan now, but, layin' low, as usual. (I like to keep a low profile regardless of country.)

I have mild interest in the extra salty flavor enhancing chopsticks, as I've been reducing salt intake for the last decade or so, though I love the stuff. But NFW am I lickin' a TV screen... (Uh, the F in NFW is for "freakin'." Don"t wanna get banned yet again for a careless, inadvertent, infringement of the forum rules...)

You have to remember that you are talking about Japan.

I will not go into details for obvious reasons here, but their toilets tend to do things that are what we consider "far above and beyond" what a toilet should do.

All I can suggest is go on You Tube...if you dare...and see for yourself.

To go any further would result in a nice little message from the Big Gorilla.

Lotus Smart Toilet Seat

It's from China. Quite the rage in Japan, though.

Google or You Tube it....I DARE YOU!

Listen to the testimonials from the people who claim how it changed their lives.

Then the chopstick issue this post is about will seem so...normal.

It's availible from Amazon for $300 US.

Electric Chopsticks

I’ll pass on electric chopsticks. I can just imagine a computer glitch or electrical surge really livening up your dinner. Willyboy

Nope. Not going there. It's stuff like this that no doubt inspired Kipling to write,

"East is east and west is west
And never the twain shall meet..."
