Here's a heads up for your guys; the Jason Winnie holster J131 is now available for the M&P full size. I have received mine and wrote a quick article about it :)

Many of you know Jason Winnie and his products. As the grandson of Don Hume he sure has received the best training available from a young age up. He also has big shoes to fill but I see no issues with Jason doing so.

I like his products and use them on a daily basis. And since months I bugged him regarding his famous J131 holster and making it finally available for the Smith & Wesson M&P full size with the 4.25" barrel. Now, I don't know if Jason just wanted me to shut up (I really bugged him a lot) or if he saw the same market potential as I did. Either way he began prototyping and promised to make one for me.

The J131is an OWB (Outside Waist Band) pancake style holster with a slight forward cant that features a steel reinforced thumb break and retention strap for extra security. Like most of his belt holsters the J131fits belts up to 1.75" and is made out of top grade American steer hide, tanned in the USA and 100% handcrafted in Missouri.

Until arrival of the new holster I used the J111with an SMP (Single Mag Pouch) on a 1.75" single layer belt and I was highly satisfied. The J111 is an open top pancake with body shield. Form and fit is perfect but in the end I was looking for something with more retention. After patiently waiting for a few weeks I finally received an example (black in color) and was very excited to make it my EDC.

The J131 – like all of Jason's other products – is top American quality, sturdy, spotless and proudly manufactured in the United States of America. It sits tight to your body and will go anywhere with you and no matter if you work in your yard, go to the store around the corner, on duty or gymnastics class, your firearm will always be safe and secure right where you need it. And in case you were wondering, the button on the inside of the retention strap is plastic covered where it meets the handgun, so it will never scratch up your investment/life insurance.

Now, with all that being said; you probably won't win a national fast draw contest with the J131. That's the only downside of having a retention strap on your holster and it takes practice until you can draw your handgun as quickly as with an open top holster. But no matter what type of holster you choose to wear, it always takes lots of practice and most importantly continuous practice (!) to safely and efficiently draw your handgun.

A Jason Winnie holster combined with either a SMP or DMP (Double Mag Pouch, you guessed it) attached to one of his belts makes a great EDC combo no matter where you go and what you do. It will be on your side under almost all thinkable situations that life can throw at you. From hunting in the woods to ranch work in the desert, as a duty rig for Law Enforcement Officer's or BBQ rig for when you meet your friends – Jason Winnie products are always a great choice. And that's why I also got a J131 in dark brown for my S&W M&P9 Pro.

Jason is a great guy to deal with and his products are priced right. Give him a call or visit his website and check it out for yourself. I promise you won't be disappointed.

Nice looking holster. Looks well made and the prices aren't bad either.

I used a thumb break for a lot of years. Still like them.

Good write up too.

Nice! Love Jason Winnie's stuff. I sometimes wear kydex for a class, but when I am carrying, it is in one of his leather holsters. Even had him make me a BBQ type holster and mag holder out of elephant.

Anyway, he is a great guy to deal with, and his prices are VERY fair, and the quality is awesome. If things work out like I hope, will be meeting him in July. If you have not checked him out and need a holster, do yourself a favor... Shoot him an email or go to his website.

Good writeup as well, forgot to put that in...
