after much research on the effects of jb bore paste and gun barrels i got nowhere. opinions run from "it ruins them" to "it can't damage them no matter how much it's used". the general opinion seems to be use it sparingly. that doesn't answer the question. no solvent removes powder residue build-up more easily. any opinions? thanks

I'm in the "use it sparingly" camp. I use it after a couple hundred rounds in my match .308 Remington rifle.
To remove carbon fouling I use Slip 2000 Carbon Killer. It's designed for soaking carbon encrusted parts such as AR bolts and such, but it works great on a patch to remove carbon fouling.
