I have read a lot of military history all my life. I recently have been focused back on the Civil War. In my readings I have come across a lot about Confederate Calvary General J.E.B. Stuart. He was born in Patrick County, Va. not far from here. Graduated West Point. He was killed in a calvary battle at Yellow Tavern, Va. in May 1864.

Didn't know until recent readings that he carried a LeMat revolver. History has it that he was dismounted and using it when he was shot. The Lemat had two barrels, top one was a 9 shot, .40 caliber cap and ball and the bottom was a single shot 20 gauge grapshot barrel. His revolver and other personal effects used to be displayed at the Museum of the Confederacy in Richmond, Va. I visited there many years ago but it has moved and it's collection is now housed in several locations as I understand).

If anyone know where it can be seen please post.

The LeMat had .42 chambers, not .40. The shotgun barrel was the arbor on which the cylinder rotated. The selector switch between the rifled and smoothbore was in the hammer.

There is a reenactment at Laurel Hill, JEB's birthplace, the first weekend in October. The family home burned many years ago.

Here's a link to the contact info for the museums.

I visited the spot where he was shot. It's in the middle of a housing area on, IIRC, Telegraph road. There is a monument and plaque on the side of the road in someone's front yard where it happened.
It was all rather strange but interesting.
I haven't been there since everyone has become all Woke so it may have been removed.
The next time I'm on that side of town I'll check and snap a pic if it's still there.
I forgot to mention that I was able to also visit the Confederate museum when it was open plus the Confederate White House next door. It was being swallowed up by the university hospital complex and slated to be moved later.
I don't know where it's all at now.
I did get to see his plumed hat and gloves in addition to his Lemat.
