Jeremy Clarkson

I don't think there is any doubt about whether or not he punched Piers Morgan. My understanding is that he did.

So he gets a pass from me right there.

From what I read in the press, he punched a/the producer of his show for not providing dinner at a shoot, but who knows what really happened? (Maybe the producer was 25 YO smart alec who and said, "F$&@ U!, Clarkson! You and the guys can get your own damn dinner, and, by the way, yo mama wears combat boots." I mean, really, who knows who said what?

Re his trashing the US, I defer to our resident Brit, LV Steve, but it seems to me that Brits, at least the Brit guys I knew, when drinking, as bantering humour (!), casually insult one another as a matter of course. As an American, I learned to just insult 'em right back and everybody got along fine.

I think sometimes we Americans take ourselves too seriously. No need to need to be so prickly. :)

I love the show and it wouldn't be the show without him! ;)
The American version stinks and needs to go off into TV Loser Land!

The guy trashes a lot of countries. He's not politically correct in the least. Sarcastic and abrasive. Which is what I love about his personality. Reminds me of me!

People love to complain about how bad political correctness has become until it's their turn in the hot seat. Then all of a sudden it's a bad to not be PC.

Top Gear is great when they review and test drive great cars.

Top Gear is awful when they do road trips to no where with nothing of interest. Like racing a car, a train, and a PWC. Unfortunately, the U.S. version is nothing but the stupid road trips.

If the U.S. show had Tanner Faust thrashing a new Mustang, for example, it might be interesting.

I read that Clarkson is worth $55,000,000 a year in revenue to the BBC. BUT, BBC is state supported, so they don't really need the money. And they act like it.

I have never had a problem with arrogant people as long as their worth their salt, that being said I've always enjoyed Clarkson work on Top Gear. He is very passionate about engineering and knows his business, he never really comes across as a blow hard, he's just one of those guys that knows his business and doesn't mind letting the rest of us in on the information. One of my favorite people is the surgeon that cut out my prostate, that was ten years ago and although my wife always has thought he was an arrogant b#####d I've always gotten along with him great. I loved the episode where Clarkson drove the Ariel Atom..."I am an Alien.

1000 Posts.....Holy Cow!

I don't watch much on tv but really enjoy Top Gear, those three work so well together to make the show entertaining. I enjoy the exotic cars, even though I'll never own one. The road trips are fun and even the celebrity driver bits are interesting.

Without Clarkson the show wouldn't be nearly as much fun, soon be as bad as the American version which just sucks. Actually if any one of the three left for more than an episode or two (which has happened and the missing member is usually the butt of many jokes) it would really lose something.

The chemistry/interactions among them is the best of any show I've seen. If you haven't seen it, check out the episode from several years back when they each built a caravan and went on a holiday in Cornwall.

The amphibious vehicles were also hysterical.

Love the car vs whatever races.

The BBC has already suspended the last three shows of the series. If they 86 Clarkson and those shows never appear, that channel is dead to me. Going to find the bitch line to BBC America and tell them so.

Jeremy wasn't so arrogant when they had to run for their lives when visiting the SE USA. They painted "slogans" on the cars they were driving, thinking they were quite the comedians...didn't go over so big with some of the locals, who chased them out of town - they were seriously frightened!

I've wondered how much of that was real vs scripted.

Well you should be able to paint your car whatever color of slogan you want without being harassed. They went making fun of anyone. You like gun stickers and the rebel flag? Should you be run out for having that? Should the guy with an Obama sticker be chased out?

Non-scripted and television cannot exist without some form of censorship, its gotten better but its still there and without everybody sitting around the same campfire singing Cum By Yah will never totally be non-scripted.

Why does US TV love arrogant Brits? There's Simon Callow, House and the guy in Lie to Me. Maybe others too.

Name a country he hasn't trashed in some way. His sarcasm and timing is superb, and his abrasive personality is the key to his appeal.

He hates Piers Morgan. He's ripped on Mexico.

I love the guy. Hope he gets slapped on the wrist and then the show can continue with him.
Agreed. He rips on every country...including every region of the United Kingdom...not just Americans. He hates big government and over-regulation. He refuses to be politically correct and is a burr under pompous politicians' saddles on one of the most watched shows in the world. And he has managed to make a lucrative living with the BBC...a not exactly friendly work environment. I don't know that we would ever be "best buds" but more power to him. Wish more people had the kahunas to go against the grain. And I guarantee that if a BBC producer ends up with a fist in his grill, he probably asked for it. A fool invites a beating...that's in the Bible by the way. I'm not sure that means that God is on Clarkson's side...but it seems relevant.

Just pretend this is witty.

Read today that the BBC will fire him tomorrow (March 26). If so, the show's done. May's and Hammond's contracts are also over at the end of this season. Rumor is that Clarkson's going to Netflix in some way. I do wonder how this will affect the magazine,

As a long time fan of Top Gear, I am sad to see it go if Clarkson is fired, but I admire Hammond and May for not wanting to do it without him. Clarkson can be a little brash and crude, but I like him for it. He has a disdain for liberal PC politics that I think the UK needs a little more of, as well as our nation. While I do understand his temper might warrant a suspension, the other man in the fight claimed it was nothing and he was over it. I think the new BBC management was looking for a reason to can Clarkson for years, and they found it.

For what its worth, if some of you guys do not like Brit humor, fast cars, and crazy adventures, I recommend you watch some of Jeremy Clarkson's World War II documentaries. While they mostly focus on Brit efforts of the war, there is one he did about the bravery of the Allies at Arnhem during Market-Garden that gave me chills. The UK could stand more guys like him, and less of the Piers Morgan types.

Brits/British/English---dry, read VERY DRY. I love British comedy--ireverant and pointy.
Nothing is above a poke.
Top Gear is a good show--I like it.
Taking a swing at someone is hardly a act of terrorism--taking an ax to the fight is another thing.
We are all a bit snobbish about some things--read the "for sale" here.
In closing----all good things must end---this is pretty good closure.
Blessings

I don't know about Simon but House (Gregory House) was a American fictional character played by a Brit

I wouldn't mind seeing Tiff Needell in his spot. Especially if it's scripted, anyway.
