Rest In Peace. Grew up in Cincinnati going to the old Crosley Field and watch the the Big Red Machine, then Riverfront Stadium. Cincinnati hasn't fielded a decent team since. At least publicly, Joe was always a great guy. Truly the end of a great era.

Mr. Morgan had one of the four most unusual batting stances I have viewed at any of the Busch Stadiums.

1. Joe Morgan with his spastically flapping left arm.

2. Stan Musial peering around an invisible corner.

3. Frank Robinson slowly dropping his bat's barrel toward horizontal.

4. And my favorite, whom I copied through Babe Ruth League amateur baseball, Ernie Banks with his constantly moving fingers.

Now all are in the Big Game.

One of the old school classy players. One of my favorite stories about him was when another old timer asked him, "How come all these championship teams keep following you around?"

What a trade back in '71, I couldn't believe that we would trade away Lee May and Tommy Helms (+) for Morgan, Geronimo and Billingham. I was ten years old and it seemed like all we did was talk about THE TRADE. And what a trade it was. The beginning of the Big Red Machine. Watching Morgan flap his arm and then hit a double driving 2 runs in. Growing up with the Reds in the 70s made for a great childhood. Playing knothole baseball we all flapped our arms .... if the coach wasn't watching that is.

Thank You Joe!! We love and miss you. Tell the ole Lefty hi for us. RIP.

I have his baseball card for a few years from back in the day. I was a die hard Big Red Machine. I remember watching games with my Uncle Robert a European veteran of WWI and WWII. No combat in WWII, but plenty of good stories. He had a dog that... I digress. RIP Joe. Thanks for the great memories and the excuse to drink those tubs of beer.

"Who wants to get moody with Hudy?"
