From another forum, I read that John Ross, creator of a self-named-model of S&W 500 Magnum and author of a book, “Unintended Consequences” has passed on at age 64.

Sad to hear that John Ross is gone. Unintended Consequences was a ripping great yarn, unbelievably a first novel. He will be missed.

This is very sad news.

John Franklin Ross has passed too soon

I had spoken with John Ross on 500 S&W Magnum projectiles and load development back at the introduction of the cartridge. He was always willing to share his information insight with his fellow wildcatters.

I first met him Face to Face at the SHOT show in Atlanta more than two decades ago.

Unfortunately my signed first edition of UC was lost when I moved 5 years ago

I have one of his 5" 500s. I just had it to the range 2 or 3 weeks ago. It was built to his specifications to better handle the heavy projectiles. It could also have the barrel assembly easily tightened by the end user

Requiescat in Pace John Ross

Sad to hear. "Unintended Consequences," was a wonderful read. Part history,(though names were changed, many were easily reckognizable), part fiction, and part revolutionary, it had it all. RIP John Ross.

So sorry to hear this. Unintended Consequences was a shocking and yet all too possible work. It kept my attention all the way through. He went way too soon. RIP.

where did you read this? googled him and didn't find anything about his death................

Terribly sad news and I had no idea he was such a young (64) man. His first book – UC – is a fantastic book and if you haven't read it then do so. On another forum I read that he was just finishing a sequel titled "Cold Resolve" at the time of his death, that is now in the hands of his publisher and will hopefully be released soon. FYI: At the moment there is a pdf of UC on line.

Rest In Peace Sir ...

Intentionally not posted here as I have found linking to other forums is commonly frowned upon by mods, and getting a time out or ban isn’t worth it.

My condolences to the family.
Steve

John was a genuinely good guy, absolutely pro-2A, and fun to be around. I shall miss him and his gregarious nature and good sense of humor. RIP John. He was passionate about guns, cars, and motorcycles. Our good friend Tim Mullin, author of hundreds of articles and several books on guns, is speaking at the funeral in a couple of hours.

I have read everything I can find posted by John Ross on this site, THR, CB as well as the publication Ruggy sent me as to school myself for loading the great 500S&W.

Even though I never met the man, and from what I can gather he was kind of a badass, I am nevertheless saddened to hear the news. He was generous in sharing his knowledge and helpful to others.

Rest In Peace
