Hi - sorry for the possible noob question, but if I go with the JP 3.5 spring kit do I need to install new pins in the lower, or will everything still hold and fit snugly?

Since you youre going to have everything out you might as well do a quick trigger job too.

Talking about polishing the sear and such? I have read a bunch of opinions for and against doing anything other than just the springs. I just want a lighter pull, nothing too fancy.

The thing about polishing the sears is that there is very little metal that can be removed safely. Virtually none as far as d.i.y. projects. The surfaces are case hardened and you can take too much off, ruining the trigger. However you can safely smooth out the pull by using a mild polishing compound.

I used Flitz metal polish and dry fired the lower, making sure that the hammer doesn't smack into the lower, possibly damaging the lower. I cycled it about 30-40 times then cleaned all of the polish off the surfaces. I then, following J-P's instructions, applied a 60% moly paste to the sears and pins. Moly goes a long way so little is needed to do the job.

The results were quite good. Much smoother and lighter trigger pull than the OEM FCG is.

Also, don't take the FCG apart more than absolutely necessary as you can wear out the pin holes.

Good luck and good shooting!

Yes a quick polish with flitz. Do your research first on trigger jobs then take action.

Just a word of caution, you may find that the trigger pull will be better but you might also find that you will have more FTF's, that is what happend with my 15-22 so I reverted back to the orginal springs but I still did the polishing per the JP instructions and it did help a little bit.

While we are on this topic I thought I would ask about the replacement disconnecter spring mounting crooked and if the first coil should be slanted or not because that's the only way I could make it fit into the gun:confused: this is my first ar so i dont know too much about the guts.

i did the jp kit somewhere near 15,000 rounds ago its worked perfect, I also polished using jewlers rouge and a dremel with polishing wheel. in my opinion it helped more than the jp springs did. or shell out the money for a drop in trigger such as a timney, jard etc etc etc etc and be done with it

I shoot my mp22s the most so it was worth the upgrade to drop in. The ARs are milspec for now.
