The range report, The 17 and the 617, well can I just say Tack drivers. The 317 could be to with the right set of eyes behind it. I am not sure why I bought the 317 no dash, my eyes are too old to be shooting guns with out big sights. (LOL) But I too favor the 4" 617 the most.

I'm curious. Are the SSR grips on the 4" 617 original equipment or did you transfer them from a 686SSR. I own an SSR and I thought that those grips were unique to that model. Has Smith come out with a 617 SSR?

I bought those grips from someone who has an SSR. I also have a SSR and I really liked those grips and when the oportunity came I bought that set from a friend of mine.

I liked the grips on my SSR, too, but on a whim, I switched them one day for the second set of grips that came with the gun, the Uncle Mike's combat grips. To my amazement, the Uncle Mike's felt as if they were made for my hand and my shooting improved immediately. So, I now have a "surplus" set of SSR grips. Maybe, I should put them on MY 4" 617?

Oops, meant to add that my 4" 617 is my favorite revolver. My 6" 617 is my second-favorite revolver.
