Just bought a 44 Magnum

I pulled out a 1990 Shooter's Bible and it lists a Model 29 with 10 5/8 inch barrel. A 29-3 is probably older than 1990, so 9 1/2" or 9 3/8" would not surprise me. I think if I was going to tote a big bore revolcver with a barrel that long I'd look into a sling and having swivels fitted. Dealing with holsters for my 7 1/2" revolvers is pain enough.

I've seen a few .44 at my local shop - always look like a good buy. Lots of gun, and the construction to make it accurate as all get-out. Congrats on the purchase!

I have taken all of my deer with the .44 Magnum revolver. I have two that I've actually taken deer with. One is my favorite Model 29 with 8 3/8" barrel. I mostly used my own cast 250 gr Keith bullets (429421 or H&G #503). I have never recovered a bullet (even two deer shot facing me had total penetration end to end).

My "bad weather" revolver was a Ruger Redhawk with 7½" barrel. I carried both of them, sometimes in VERY rough country, in a Bianchi Hush System across the chest holster. It was a near perfect way to carry a heavy and long revolver. Quite often I also carried a pack and had no problem with either item.

FWIW
