Hoping to shoot a box through it tomorrow. I'm also hoping that the Recoil Spring Assembly doesn't hang up or cause any problems. It seems some have experienced problems with it. I couldn't find anything on a google search of any aftermarket upgrades/replacements for the RSA.

There's a thread with one company listed, the poster said they might be coming out with an RSA for the Shield. I sure hope so, as the factory part is somewhat disappointing as far as the fitment of the larger spring.

Anyway, this is my first S&W pistol, I bought it as my EDC pistol. Looking forward to learning and contributing here.

Welcome aboard from the great state of Pennsylvania!

Congrats on your Shield and welcome from Washington State.

Thanks everyone. Looks like I'll need to update my profile soon, get an avatar and such, etc.

Do you guys know if donating to the site will get rid of the ads?

Just got back from the "range". The first box of 50 went without any problems. I'll put a video together and post it for anyone whose interested in that sort of thing.

Welcome from Texas, and congrats on the new Shield .40. Mine has been an absolute joy through 600 rounds, not one single affliction of any kind. Have fun and be safe.

Thanks everyone!

Just cleaned it this morning. Granted 50 rounds isn't many, but pretty much the only thing "dirty" was the barrel. :)

Welcome from Alabama! Got close to a 1000rds through my shield 40 & she's still running strong with no malfunctions. Put Trijicon night sights on mine (amber-rear/ green-front).

I just bought another box of American Eagle. I didn't know they sold two different bullet weights until I compared the new box with the first box. The first one was 180 gr, this box I just bought is 165 gr.

I wonder if there will be a noticeable difference in recoil. I was going to shoot today but snow is coming down about 1/2" per hour. :(

Won't be much noticeable difference.
My shield has eaten every brand I've used with the exception of WWB ammo only FFE I've had was with WWB so I don't buy it any more.

Just put 25 rounds of the 165 gr. American Eagle FMJ through today. Unfortunately the increase in recoil was significant. I will not be shooting this lighter round anymore.

I put two different personal defense rounds through it also, both were lighter in recoil....actually pleasant to shoot.

In fact, I will be looking for some "low recoil" (if such a round exists) ball ammo for target practice after today.
