Found a great 4516-1 on gun broker and decided to pull the trigger. As the title says this is my first 3rd Gen S&W. Any suggestions with maintenance of springs, accessories I should look at or something of the sort would be appreciated. Also this is my first post here, so if there are any questions feel free to ask.
Thanks in advance,
Mark

yeah I am doing the same thing. found a great deal on a 915. very close to a 5906 but not stainless. i had a 4046 back in the late 90's and some one talked me into selling .. .
there are tuff guns! shoot it first I bet it needs nothing.
only thing I might do is get a set of Hogue grips and look for more mags...

Nice 1st gun to pick up. The 4516-1 is an all SSs model as you probably know. 7 round mag with the yellow follower. It's a tank of a gun. Virtually indestructible.Like Tigman said there isn't much to do except find more mags. A good cleaning if only to learn it's guts. The springs will let you know if they need replacing. Most likely not. Enjoy. I had my 4513TSW no rail out at the range tonight. What a great CCW. I have had (2) 4516s but sold them.. only because I had the 4513TSW. They were redundant. Again Enjoy!!

Welcome to the forum!

Mark, that 4516-1 is a pretty solid gun, I have one myself. There is one thing that might be problematic, and that is using the right magazine for it.. and those are the one marked 4516-1 only.

Now, I'm not fully up to speed on it, but there was an issue with feeding/jamming that S&W corrected with an updated magazine, and the reason for the markings.

Many people do a refresh of the springs as a matter of course when they acquire a used gun, since there's no telling how long the ones that came with the gun have been in use.

Wolff gun springs sells recoil and firing pin springs for the 4516-1, there's been discussions here about the 4516's... this one is a really good read: http://smith-wessonforum.com/smith-wesson-semi-auto-pistols/302158-4516-vs-4516-1-vs-4516-2-a.html

I have a 4516 too. I like it very much and I improved my accuracy by replacing the factory stocks with Hogue rubber. Maybe something for you to consider once you become comfortable with your gun. And welcome to the forum.

Congrats and welcome to the Forum! :)

I think the above posters have you pretty much covered, so I'll just add that the 4516 is a great shooting (if somewhat heavy) compact .45 and I love my -2.

Mags normally can be had from time to time in the classified section.

Very nice choice. I have one on lay away and should be bringing it home soon. If ya need a good holster for it and are left handed, I have a safariland that is brand new in the package. I bid on ebay before I realize it was lefty. If you are interested PM me.
