Hello folks, I am the new owner of a very nice 1972 Model 66 "No Dash" .357/.38 . Picked it up today at my local gun store. It was a consignment gun from a collector that has been selling off his collection via this great store that I have frequented for years.

But there is something unusual about this Model 66, that I need some advice or information on.

This revolver comes with the following:

Target Trigger (Stainless)
Target Hammer (Stainless)
Counter Bored (Recessed) Cylinder
Pinned in two places
Stainless Front sight (No Orange)
Stainless Rear sight group
Stainless Firing Pin
Beautiful Smooth Target grips

It looks like a target model 66 but I cannot locate any information on any target model 66 combat masterpieces that S&W ever made.
So I have turned to the experts here on the forum.

Is there a Target Model 66 that I just cannot find any info on or could this be a special order with S&W?
I have photos but not sure how to post them (Low tech old guy)
Thoughts?

Do you have a pic?

Here's my early unfired 66 (with the silver sights). Mine doesn't have a target hammder or trigger, but I do believe they were available per order back then. Also, the hammer and trigger are not stainless. They are chromed.

6" model 66s were sometimes shipped with Target hammers and triggers, but a 4" usually not. If you do not have the original box with the features marked on the end label a letter of authenticity would document these as being original, or not.

Oh man ... Im jealous... an early clean 66 4" has been on my very short list... TTT would just be icing on the cake...

if you feel it's appropriate , pls PM me with the price you paid as Im trying to study the market pricing for these to establish a realistic range... Gunbroker can be all over the place so I only put a loose range on prices I see there

Congrats !!

I hope this works! Here are the photos of my 1972 Model 66 "No Dash" TT,TH, Chrome Trigger, Rear Sight & Firing Pin, Pinned, Recessed Cylinder, Target grip etc....
Thanks for the replys, they really helped. I am wondering if I contact S&W to research the revolver, maybe this was a private , custom upgrade....I just do not know....More Thoughts please?

You mention pinned in two places, are you referring to the barrel and the sight pins?

I would be curious as to the originality of the TT, TH, and smooth target stocks and would letter the Model 66. However, original or not, they are great upgrades. For comparison, the Model 66, K949138, shown below is one of the 100 made in May 1970 to test the new tooling for the stainless .357 Combat Magnum. These revolvers were manufactured with a target hammer and standard trigger. Click on the photo for a closer look.
