Just curious, how many carry spare ammunition?

I always have at least one speed strip. Sometimes two or one and a speedloader.

when i carry the M66 2-1/2" (which is most of the time) I have two 6 round flat ammo holders I carry in pouches on my belly band rig and at least 1 speed loader in the rig.
when i carry my Sig 229 .40, I have 1 12 mag in the gun and 1 12 rounder in the belly band carry setup.

Depends . . .

I always have the M37 in a front pocket holster, even around the house.

If I'm going out where I'll feel a slight need for more ammo I'll carry one speed loader for it.

If I'm going into an area that's possibly more threatening I'll also wear another gun concealed on a belt holster. Sometimes it is a M36 in a Rosen belt holster, other times a 3" barrelled Kimber Ultra CDP (lightweight Officer's type) .45ACP.

Traveling on the road, I've always got another gun in the glove box too . . . a chopped barrel 25-2 in .45ACP . . . backed by a holder that secures SIX loaded moon clips for extra ammo. I do my best shooting with this wonderful revolver and it is a great comfort to have that tack-driving, hard hitting revolver nearby.

Recently, when there was some danger around here, I went to the safe and switched the little lightweight Kimber on my belt for a Para Ordinance high capacity, full-size 1911 + a pair of 13 round .45ACP magazines in a Safariland mag holder . . . to back up the AR-15 and four 30 round magazines! WHATEVER it takes!

Alas, I lead a "boring," law-abiding life . . . but I'm prepared as well as I can for surprise trouble. Part of that preparation MUST include lots of practice and competition to develop the smooth gun handling skills and proficiency that are so important under stress.

I carry a SP101 .357 with a speed strip in my front pocket. If I carry a pistol I always carry a spare mag.

I'm still waiting for Ray at Lobo Gun LeEather to finish my holster for my Model 66, and my spare mag carier for my M&P .40. Once I have the spare mag carrier, I'll be carrying a spare mag with me everywhere!

Well, I've got company anyway although I'm not bragging. I never (seldom) carry a reload with my j-frame and wouldn't even consider it unless I was going to spend the weekend in Miami.
Jeff Cooper, who I met many years ago in Paulden, once said that the most rounds he ever heard of that were used in one gunfight was five rounds in a 7-round magazine.
Bruce Nelson was once asked whether he should consider carrying a P-35 due to its high-capacity mag. He answered: "Sure, if you plan to miss a lot."
So, okay, I know that a reload makes good sense, so do good brakes and a honest wife.
And I do have two out of the three.
I carry daily under a t-shirt with shorts in hot Florida and a reload is ...well, I don't do it. Obiously, if I lived in Ohio and wore a jacket these days, it would be easier. If I need more than five, I'm going to try to run. Did you ever see a 70-yr-old guy with a bad back try to run?

Do a web search and look for the "bullet sponge" Bill Allard had to kill. Also, a search for 'Michael Platt" might prove interesting. Those guys are out there. Faced with two or three assailants five shots of .38 aren't much.

I see that quote from Cooper repeated from time to time, but it is an odd one, since he (Cooper) was certainly aware of a case that took place in South Africa where a guy was wounded and had to rely on a Star 9mm auto and 2 x eight or nine round mags to kill multiple attackers. I remember Cooper writing about the incident in a column.
