Just curious, how many carry spare ammunition?

I carry 7+1 in my 1911 and 2 8rd mags on my belt, if 24 rounds of .45 don't get me out of a situation I guess better start runnin.

The most rounds I've ever carried was 45:

M&P40c w/ 2 extra mags of 180gr Federal Hydra-Shok
BUG w/ 1 extra mag (somewhat unmentionable weapon, soon to be upgraded, hopefully to an M&P 340 if my wallet allows:D)

I quickly decided that was a bit cumbersome, so I dropped one of the .40 mags. Though around the house it's usually just the BUG with no reload.

Gonna have to check out that "Texas Hold Em"...

agree on the texas hold-em. thanks for the heads up on that. extra ammo depends on the gun,but always at least 2 reloads for whatever is carried. lately been p14 converted to 400 cor-bon.

the best way of reloading is not to have one, if you survive the 13 rds of .40 out of my SW99, you probably won't survive the 5 out of my 638 and if you do you are running for the hills bobbing and weaving and ain't coming back

I carry an extra clip at all times although I shouldn't need it as both clips are full of Golden Sabers .45 cal. ten per clip but one should do the trick.

I carry a SKS stripper clip loaded with 10 rounds of 357 in a knife pouch. Handy, and doesn't look like what it is.

Primary HCP firearm = Glock 26 (10 +1) with two spare mags on the belt and two more in the truck door pocket. BUG = 6904 (12+1) plus 1 spare mag in truck door pocket. 2nd BUG is Colt DS 38 Sp loaded with 110 gr +P+ strapped to the ankle and a speed strip in the front pocket. This is of course during the cooler months. This time of year it is usually a 3953 or 4053 in an IWB and two spare mags stuck in the back pocket. BUG this time of year is the Colt DS on the ankle as mentioned above. The most ammo I have carried on my person using my HCP is 83 rounds for four different firearms. Glock 26 + 2 reloads (31 rounds), 6904 + 1 reload (25 rounds), Colt DS + 1 Speed Strip (12 rounds) and a Kel Tec P32 + 1 reload (15 rounds). The Kel Tec is normally carried in a Kydex neck strap holster laced to a leather strip or tucked into the back pocket in a wallet style holster.

You might want to wear a vest if you don't already. You'll find that BUGs tuck up nicely up under your arm when you attach holsters to your panel carrier, I've hidden a full size steel frame 1911 that way.

Though I'm curious as to why you carry 2 9mm autos that take different mags. Mind you, I like multiple guns myself, but my concern would be trying to shove the wrong mag into the wrong gun under stress. One would think that a G19/26 or 2x G26s would make a better combo?

when i carry the M66 2-1/2" (which is most of the time) I have two 6 round flat ammo holders I carry in pouches on my belly band rig and at least 1 speed loader in the rig.
when i carry my Sig 229 .40, I have 1 12 mag in the gun and 1 12 rounder in the belly band carry setup.

All I ever needed in LA.

Hi Mickey D-
Grips were made by the late John Hurst, LAPD cop, firearms instructor and master grip maker.

Depends . . .

I always have the M37 in a front pocket holster, even around the house.

If I'm going out where I'll feel a slight need for more ammo I'll carry one speed loader for it.

If I'm going into an area that's possibly more threatening I'll also wear another gun concealed on a belt holster. Sometimes it is a M36 in a Rosen belt holster, other times a 3" barrelled Kimber Ultra CDP (lightweight Officer's type) .45ACP.

Traveling on the road, I've always got another gun in the glove box too . . . a chopped barrel 25-2 in .45ACP . . . backed by a holder that secures SIX loaded moon clips for extra ammo. I do my best shooting with this wonderful revolver and it is a great comfort to have that tack-driving, hard hitting revolver nearby.

Recently, when there was some danger around here, I went to the safe and switched the little lightweight Kimber on my belt for a Para Ordinance high capacity, full-size 1911 + a pair of 13 round .45ACP magazines in a Safariland mag holder . . . to back up the AR-15 and four 30 round magazines! WHATEVER it takes!

Alas, I lead a "boring," law-abiding life . . . but I'm prepared as well as I can for surprise trouble. Part of that preparation MUST include lots of practice and competition to develop the smooth gun handling skills and proficiency that are so important under stress.

I carry a SP101 .357 with a speed strip in my front pocket. If I carry a pistol I always carry a spare mag.

I'm still waiting for Ray at Lobo Gun LeEather to finish my holster for my Model 66, and my spare mag carier for my M&P .40. Once I have the spare mag carrier, I'll be carrying a spare mag with me everywhere!

1 spare speed loader for the SP 101 and 1 spare magazine for the Tomcat

Zilch.....

Well, I've got company anyway although I'm not bragging. I never (seldom) carry a reload with my j-frame and wouldn't even consider it unless I was going to spend the weekend in Miami.
Jeff Cooper, who I met many years ago in Paulden, once said that the most rounds he ever heard of that were used in one gunfight was five rounds in a 7-round magazine.
Bruce Nelson was once asked whether he should consider carrying a P-35 due to its high-capacity mag. He answered: "Sure, if you plan to miss a lot."
So, okay, I know that a reload makes good sense, so do good brakes and a honest wife.
And I do have two out of the three.
I carry daily under a t-shirt with shorts in hot Florida and a reload is ...well, I don't do it. Obiously, if I lived in Ohio and wore a jacket these days, it would be easier. If I need more than five, I'm going to try to run. Did you ever see a 70-yr-old guy with a bad back try to run?

Do a web search and look for the "bullet sponge" Bill Allard had to kill. Also, a search for 'Michael Platt" might prove interesting. Those guys are out there. Faced with two or three assailants five shots of .38 aren't much.

I see that quote from Cooper repeated from time to time, but it is an odd one, since he (Cooper) was certainly aware of a case that took place in South Africa where a guy was wounded and had to rely on a Star 9mm auto and 2 x eight or nine round mags to kill multiple attackers. I remember Cooper writing about the incident in a column.
