Just curious if anyone here who partcipated in the spare magazine thread has rethought it after LA riots.

What makes a protester a "bad guy". You know it is covered under the Constitution and all of that jazz.

Watts was a riot. The destruction after Rodney King was a riot. This sir is no riot.

But I carry a spare magazine as stated above due to malfunctions and the like so your question doesn't apply.
Nothing to see here, these are peaceful protests, damn it! lol

I admit to being a bit surprised that some here don't consider the events in LA a riot. Yes under the constitution you are allowed to "peacefully assemble". Burning cars, looting, and dropping concrete blocks onto passing cars from a bridge doesn't qualify as a peaceful demonstration.

Three decades OTJ I've worked in a couple of "minor" riots. If your the guy surrounded by a hundred "protesters" trying to liberate your lawfully arrested prisoner its an entirely different point of view. Have you ever been the target of hundreds of rocks and bottles thrown at you at 1 AM by a unruly crowd? With the nearest patrol car two blocks away due to the size of the "crowd"? Then had to fight your way back to the car carrying said prisoner?

If you haven't been there, done that, you don't know jack ****. Pretty freakin' simple.

In New Jersey where I worked it is defined as, "four or more participating in a course of disorderly conduct..." look up, N.J.S.A. 2C:33-1.

I'd say hundreds or thousands more than qualify.

I have to wonder if anyone here who was not actively carying a spare magazine or extra reload or two for a revolver has given any serious thought into "maybe" changing their mind. The recent riots in LA (and smaller ones elsewhere) have been in the public eye and those of us here who take SD seriously might want to look at this topic again. I am more curious about human nature here than anything else. It's OK to change our minds - I have done so on more than one occasion. Heck, I never thought I'd be carrying a micro 9 pistol over my former EDC - a M60-7.

Unfortunately, sometimes when we least expect it, trouble happens upon us - even when we thought we were going into a pefcetly safe place.
Many of us who are blessed to live in safe & secure areas can become complacent...we should have a gut-check...unrest fomented by the current crop of 'paid" actors can happen anywhere...in fact, if I was planning such actions, I would choose a soft target far removed from the "usual" places, just to shake up mom & pop America..." Pray for peace, but Plan for war"

BTW, Guys, this has been happening in other areas too! May not make the evening news (MSM doesn't want us to know) but it happened in a few places in NYS as well. I'd bet there are other places too.
That’s good though that citizens are willing to protest even with their government attempting to escalate something peaceful into violence.

My carry gun is also in no way on me to go up against anyone stealing from a large or even small business. My life is worth more to me than the stolen goods. Anyone looking to self appoint as a loss prevention advocate with deadly force needs to evaluate if they are mentally fit to carry.

If by rioters you are including the ice officers, any military force, and/or Kyle style copycats looking for trouble, my 5-6 shot revolver has no place in that exchange even with a reload.

Never said crimes haven't been committed and criminals are there doing criminal things.

Just said the majority of the folks are not participating in those actions and the level of violence and crimes pales in comparison to what I would consider a riot.

But, we can have this debate for years and there would still be no change in minds.

when carrying a high capacity 9 MM, I always carry at least one spare magazine. When carrying one of my revolvers, I always carry at least 2 speed loaders. I always carry a smaller 5 shot revolver in my pocket as a back up.

18 US code section 2102 disagrees with you.

What has been happening absolutely meets the legal definition of “riot.”

I was deployed from the SW border to the 1992 LA riots. It was quite the mess. When you have problem children, all in masks, goggles, and black hoodies throwing chunks of cinder blocks at police, burning cars, looting, it’s a riot. May not be as big as the Watts or 92 festivities, but it’s still a riot,

Carrying a spare magazine or reload for a revolver is always a good idea, but not going to make any difference if one is caught up in a mass disturbance. Remember in the 2020 riots in some place, a guy got out of his pickup with a five shot for whatever reason. The rioters disarmed him and beat him within an inches of his life. Several lessons there, but thr second rule, if you ignore the first by deciding you can drive thru something like that is to stay in your vehicle.

If you’re a business owner who might be caught in the middle, make sure your insurance covers those kinds of disasters. Even then, it’s property. Unless you’ve got your own infantry platoon, or st least a crew served machine gun, extra ammo for handguns, shotguns, or carbines won’t do much more than maybe help you get out the back and get away.

Go to Greg Elliftitz’s activerresponsetraining.net. He has posted quite a few articles for how to plan for and deal with getting by caught up in a riot or peaceful protest. His wisdom isn’t gun-centered. Oh, he suggests you csrry one and an extra reload or two if you can, but he also suggests a lot of other things.

As for me, I have no king but Jesus, and Jesus is Lord. So I won’t be going to any marxist-led no kings “protests.”
