Just curious if anyone here who partcipated in the spare magazine thread has rethought it after LA riots.

I have to wonder if anyone here who was not actively carying a spare magazine or extra reload or two for a revolver has given any serious thought into "maybe" changing their mind. The recent riots in LA (and smaller ones elsewhere) have been in the public eye and those of us here who take SD seriously might want to look at this topic again. I am more curious about human nature here than anything else. It's OK to change our minds - I have done so on more than one occasion. Heck, I never thought I'd be carrying a micro 9 pistol over my former EDC - a M60-7.

Unfortunately, sometimes when we least expect it, trouble happens upon us - even when we thought we were going into a pefcetly safe place.

I went thru the riots in the late sixties. That settled the question in my mind. Several riots since then served to confirm my decision.

Sal, thank you for posting this video. I am proud to say I worked for a chief like that. I also am sad to say I worked for 3 chiefs who were total political tools that would roll over and play dead for a promotion. Politicians all want their own little army. That means naming the next chief so they have control. Luckily we just about always had a deputy chief that was in command of the troops. They would run interference for patrol and you knew someone on top had your back.

Couple of things not said in seven pages. The real cops who have been in the middle of riots, civil disturbances etc. Really have little concern for more ammo. The biggest concern is protecting your weapon, not losing it the middle of a hostile crowd. That is how you really get hurt.

Another I alluded to in another post. ICE is law enforcement. They had warrants for named criminals. They were surrounded and called for assistance. That is police speak for, HELP. When an officer calls for assistance it doesn't matter what unit, sector, department or agency he/she is from. The coffee gets tossed out the window and it's balls to the walls all out response to get there. NOW, not when it's more convenient. There seems to have been a problem in communication between ICE and LAPD or LASO. I suspect a nervous white shirt ran it up the chain of command. They should have had dozens of patrol cars and officers there within minutes and ICE and their suspects moved out.

The delay never should have happened. The guys should have swarmed in. That delay is what needs to be investigated. It is impossible to keep politics out of this cluster, that is what caused it, long before Trump became President the first time.

Maybe not...

A county sheriff in Florida and one of his deputies are being sued by a father alleging he was arrested — and had his face broadcast across social media platforms — after being charged with possession and distribution of child pornography based solely on a cellphone number that had not been used in more than two years.

In a complaint filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Edgardo Acevedo Cancela accused Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd and Deputy Sean Jones of false arrest and malicious prosecution. He also claimed that Jones lied under oath about the data authorities obtained from his cellphone before the charges were dropped.

True colors have been shown in this thread. If you are blind to multiple "riots" in the last 48 hours in multiple cities across the US you might as well scream your politics from a stump in the town square. I'm out.

I live outside and away from any cities and if there's trouble, I just don't go there, but there's never been widespread trouble around here, at least none that could be called a riot. If it gets that way I'll rethink SD in general. I also don't plan to move into any urban areas, especially LA.(n)

It could also be that not everyone who has firearms is right leaning or maga/clan? I’m not concerned with anyone’s take on my political views, especially those who can’t have constructive conversations or are hive minded conformist within a given community.

Weirdly, if you think people lawfully protesting immoral government actions is bad, you might as well be screaming your politics too.

I always carry a spare magazine. You never know what may happen if, God forbid, you ever have to use your firearm. Magazine could fail. You could be in a shtf situation, you just never know. Of course, it always better to have a spare. Just like your firearm, it is better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

What makes a protester a "bad guy". You know it is covered under the Constitution and all of that jazz.

Watts was a riot. The destruction after Rodney King was a riot. This sir is no riot.

But I carry a spare magazine as stated above due to malfunctions and the like so your question doesn't apply.
Reginald Denney was gang beat with concrete blocks because he stopped his cement truck. He should have protested by driving over them. His attackers were identified by helo video cams but never incarcerated, just let get away.

The recent events have changed nothing in how I conduct myself, armed or unarmed. On Saturday I'm attending a function in the middle of downtown. It was planned months ago. I cannot be armed at this event. I will leave my gun in a lock box in an indoor parking facility across the street from the event. I'm meeting up with a group and we are all going together. My plan is to leave the downtown area before 10 at the latest. More likely by 9.

I have since been advised that there is a "No Kings" protest march planned for that evening about a half a mile away. There are several "Juneteenth" events also planned. There is also road construction on the very street where I will be. Of these, the road construction is my greatest concern. I'm not overly concerned about safety, more or less, march or no, as my security arrangements are all the same all the time. In my experience, the social unrest incidents seem to have a predictable trajectory of their own. I think I will have time to get out of dodge if things start to change for the worst. I have in the past. Are there any guarantees? No. Police will be on hand in sufficient numbers. I plan on an enjoyable time.

The number of magazines and type of gun I carry is of no significant importance. Downtown will be full of people. In the past, I have actually "downgraded " to a 5 shot snubby under these conditions. I think I'm less likely to be involved in a gunfight unless it is one on one and close up. If I'm wrong, I will report back. YMMV

Not true. All four were convicted; Google the 'L.A. Four.' Here's one account:

Gary Williams plead guilty to attempted grand theft, assault, and robbery and was sentenced to three years in prison, per UPI. A hung jury meant that the assault charge against Henry Keith Watson didn't stick, according to Time. He was ultimately convicted of the misdemeanor of simple assault and sent home after his trial for time served after spending 17 months in jail, The Eagle reported. "I got caught up in the emotions like everyone else," the former marine said of his attack on Reginald Denny.

Antoine Miller was sentenced to 17 months in jail and 27 months of probation for his role in the attack on Reginald. He pleaded guilty to grand theft, assault, and receiving stolen property, per the Los Angeles Times.

Damien Williams was sentenced to ten years for attacking Reginald and four others the same day. He only served four of those years but ended up in prison again for being part of the murder of a drug dealer in 2000. He was sentenced to 46 years in prison in 2003.

No because I rarely get to carry as a teacher, so when I do those ten rds feel adequate. When I first started traveling pulling my trailer. I joined at forum there is a thread posted about carrying spare parts reading that thread is much like this. When do you stop if one water pump breaks do you carry two do you carry multiple spare tires, the tools to change anything, and everything that breaks if I justify carrying an extra clip why not two or three or maybe liking those lethal weapon movies I could carry five or six guns hidden in various parts of my body. I believe that when God decides it’s your time whether you have no gun or your carry one gun and 30 clips it’s your time how many times have you read or seen that an individual normally carries but didn’t carry that day or vice versa never carries, but chose to carry that day.

I wonder what store owners did to get looted. And why the hell burn Waymo? Exactly what did they do?
And again, exactly NOBODY is saying these actions aren't crimes. Nobody is saying these actions should be ignored, forgiven, pardoned after the fact or treated in any other way than with the full force of the law - including the people who are "arguing" here. Some news sources keep pointing up these things and insinuating that this is the the only type of behavior that matters and is occuring, everywhere, all the time, or that somehow ALL of the protestors are guilty by association.

When presented with this dogma, I believe I will politely decline...
