I just got back my Model 29-2 back from Robars and I must say they do great work. The had a special going and so I had to divert some of my project funds for a varmint rifle towards fixing an issue I had with my first handgun.

This pistol had work done by Andy Cannon and the blue finish was not wearing it's age very well. It bothered me that such a great gun was lacking in that department so off it went.

It came back and it looks good but the action smoothed up even more. I will see if I can get pictures up next week.

I would not hesitate to send another gun, rifle, etc. for this finish (except for the cost). It is expensive (to me at least), but since is one gun that is not going anywhere, it was worth the cost.

I’ve been on the fence for years about Robar finishes. I mean, for such a successful company, they don’t have much of anything to show off on the website. No finished examples to speak of and the few they do have, show a tremendous amount of orange peel in the Roguard in particular. I’ll look forward to your PIC’s. As it is, I have trouble finding PIC's anywhere on the web that show finished work. Very strange…

I agree about Roguard (their "black" finish) peeling, etc. If I was going for a black gun, I would go with a DLC (diamond like coating); such as, ION Bond, but they won't do some parts due to the heat needed for the coating to cure.

I have one gun that has Roguard and the finish is not what I would call wear resistant. When I chose NP3, I talked to a few folks and that have it and they said it was very good for a carry piece and corrosion resistance. They did not have the Plus but the regular NP3.

I also have one gun that has bottom done in hard chrome, but thought the slickness of NP3 would be better for my use - backup woods / hunting gun.

I have a 629 that I've been wanting to get coated..I like the Birdsong finishes but havent really picked anything. I use this gun for hunting so it needs to lose a little bling!! I'll be watching this thread for pics!

I had a rifle done in Birdsong's green-T finish about twelve or thirteen years ago and the only place it has worn is on the triggerguard. This rifle has been used ALOT. I dont know how it would fare on a revolver, I think the biggest issue would be holster wear , especially with leather.

It is not applied to the inside of the barrel, the chambers or the springs.

The rest of the parts are done internally based on the conversation that I had with the folks at Robar.

I have a Les Baer Premier II I sent to Robar a few years ago for the NP3 finish. The finish is extremely tough and as slick as a teflon pan. After 12-14K rounds the finish its still going strong, not a chip or flake anywhere. I've heard good things about the ION bond finishes also.

Andy Cannon once had a shop in Western Montana. He tuned a few revolvers for me as well as several for friends...his work was quite good. He did a 25-2 for a buddy and that tune , though a light SA pull...held up for years.

FN in MT

I had Andy Cannon work on my gun after he closed his shop. He was in law enforcement and did some work part time.

I really love his action work, but when you then add the NP3 it makes the trigger pull that much nicer.
