Just picked one up at a gun show because it was too cheap to leave sitting on the table. Can't seem to find any personal defense in 41 mag. Was trying to establish some kind of a value just for my own FYI. Any thoughts?

Pretty rare - but the 41 mag caliber is a bummer- painful to shoot in a titanium. For L frames, 327pd is 357caliber titanium as is 386pd, 242, 386 mountain lite.

Hey guys I appreciate the comments. My question wasn't so much to talk about the 41 mag but this particular gun itself. Just doesn't seem like there are very many out there. I was more curious about from a collectible standpoint. It sure is light.

Same could be said for most any cartridge:D.
Remington could have just created very light 44 magnum loads for police work and skipped the 41 altogether.

Poppycock.

The .41 magnum's smaller size meant it could be theoretically fitted into a smaller and lighter firearm... instead, it was chambered in .44 magnum sized weapons meaning the guns ended up HEAVIER due to more steel... hmm... maybe you're right and the handful of .41 nuts clinging to that long-abandoned and pointless cartridge are wrong?

I have seen a grand total of one of them.

Since they came out. And I get around to a good many shops and shows. So I think that they are pretty rare.

If your a big bore revolver guy and want one for daily carry the alloy N frames are great. If you loaded it up with 210s at about 800fps the recoil wouldn't be that bad with the rubber grips. They are light enough to forget about while carrying. I carry a 325 with a 2 1/2 barrel and titanium cylinder.

The appox 200 gr load and 800fps in a snub is about right for these and should be about the same 357, 325 or 329. Full house 41 0r 44 mags are going to sting.

I predict that unless S&W goes to cranking out a bunch of these they will become sought after and demand a premium. 10 years or so down the road some die hard 41 mag guy will fork over some cash for one. If not you still got a really cool gun. LOL

Got to get my quota of enabling done for the week.

That's what invariably happens once someone mentions the 41 Magnum in a thread. The haters think they need to step-on those that like them.

Just not all that many 41s made & if it's in design that itself was limited it just makes your's more unique. Enjoy it! :)

.

I seems pretty obvious that until the re-designed/enhanced L-frame came along the N-frame was the only real option for the 41 Magnum from S&W.

.

Took me about a year to find one, they are not common. Worth way more than $800 unless in poor shape. OP's does not have original grips, they came with S&W branded Hogue's and smooth wood grips. Perhaps very late or early wood grips, not like my originals. Much more pleasant to shoot than the 329PD. Same pistol other than in .41 Mag vice 44 mag. .41 does not give up much to the .44 mag. Not sure what is meant by "personal defense" It is a 41 magnum.. If you can handle it, it is way beyond any 9mm and many others. Mine is my woods carry, no problems up to big bears.

Curious, any one know how many were produced? I don't think that many but could be wrong. The 329PD is still available. The 357PD has been gone for several years now.

I have one with the case, paperwork and both sets of grips. I paid $1250.00 shipped to my FFL dealer. It came with 3 boxes of Hornady ammo and a good holster. I have not seen one for sale sense then. I love that gun. I also have a S&W model 357 Night Guard. Both are a hand full to shoot with full power loads. But I like to light load 41 specials for these and that makes them much more fun at the target range.

ScoutII, International Harvester Scout? Another rare beast. You and I maybe they only ones in CA with a 357PD. Mine is like yours, case and all paperwork and accessories.

Besides being good looking I think being a .41 Mag makes it even more appealing to me.

I have a 6" M57 and a M58.

That's the first "newer" gun that I really like. Maybe I should sell one of my old ones and look for one.

Mine is a M57 4" Mtn Lite version of 41 mag.
I'd be happy to find a 357PD as you describe. The last one I saw in my area was a shop that was closing down about 5 years ago.

One of the most accurate revolvers I have.
