for the .44 Magnum handgun of your choice - S&W, Ruger, TC, even C***. If you could have just one cartridge, carried in the gun or in your pocket, your choice, which would it be? Does not need to be current manufacture.

One round of .44 S&W Magnum? Just one? Easy. The heaviest hard cast lead flat nose bullet available loaded hotter than the hinges of the theological place of eternal torment. I'd plan on waiting till he was bad breath close at which time I'd jam that four inch M-29 flame thrower up in the roof of his mouth and fire for effect. Later of course I'd have to rinse off to deal with all his blood, brains, etc. Then, I'd reload my empty cartridge case and get ready for the next bear. Sincerely. bruce.

I carry Federal 300-Gr. cast flat point in my Ruger New Model Super
Blackhawk when I am in big brown bear country. Shown below with
Lawrence Keith holster replica by Henry Cassday. Belt by David Keith,
Solingen blade with grip by Phil.

The old model 29 has been worked hard, so I carry Buffalo Bore's low
recoil (4E) 255-Gr. Keith load in it. Shown with Chic Gaylord holster
on Chic Gaylord gunbelt.

I believe a .22LR in the knee of whoever you are with.
Oh, pawngal, the bear would be laughing so hard at me it'd forget what he/she was there for! Human bare are generally kinda ugly; at least in PGH PA!

Just had a friends nephew defend himself with a grizz locally while bow hunting Elk. One warning shot..bear shied off came back bear spray...shied off again... came back for serious and got 3 shots at just single digit feet for the last...not a 44 though...454 Casull from a Ruger I think A handgun is usually not enough M-1 Super 90 with mag extension is much much better when loaded with slugs. My gun of last resort is a S&W 57 4 inch loaded with 240 WFNGCs at about 1050. On another good note 2 friends each got respectable 6x6s up about 10 miles from the Park. Only saw 1 bear at about a half mile...Still too close!!

There's been a trend here latetly of "you can just have one of....."

So I ask. And if you could have more than one bear?:D
