Just ordered my first handgun: an M&P 2.0 FDE. Will it come with any kind of case?

Howdy, Folks,

A couple nights ago, I ordered my first handgun: a new (as opposed to used) M&P M2.0 FDE 9mm. I ordered it from Tombstone Tactical.

Should I expect it to come in some kind of case?

Thanks!

I don't know if it will come in a plastic case or a box but it will be one or the other. I believe they ship the Shields in a cardboard box. Either way keep the box in case you ever need to send it back to S&W or decide to sell it.

MY S&W M&P 2.0 9mm came in a cardboard box. I later found out thet one could purchase a plastic case for about $20 with shipping included. Color was blue. Some precutting was done to fit the backstraps But I had ordered two extra 17 round mags so took a little ingenuity tp make everything fit. And for those who are on the physically Challenged side, Bravo Concealment also sells a kydex IWB for this model. Think it sells for $45. If I wear it at the three o'clock side you cannot tell I'm carrying. Pretty sure they sell an IWB magazine carrier (single mag) and I think they also offer a double mag carrier. Phone call should provide any info you would need. Frank

The black plastic case 2.0’s are Agent 007 special edition models. They are no longer made and came with the super duper accurizing precision hit job action tune:D Saltwater marine cups and a generous amount of anti- seize gold lubricant are standard features in the secretive black plastic case models:D They also come standard with the ultra classified orange front sight dot:D

My 2.0's ordered a while back came in black cases but my latest FDE came in a cardboard box. I really don't care either way but I do keep the box since it is numbered to the gun. Same thing with a few Ruger MKIV's...some boxed some in cases. Again, I really don't care either way. I don't store them in the box they come in so it just gets put aside somewhere never to be used. As long as you have what it originally came in you're good to go for resale.

Thanks, everybody! The black plastic cases I'd seen in some videos seemed like they'd be decent for storing the gun, and moving it from place to place (I'm a newbie, so if this is NOT a good idea, let me know), but it sounds like I won't be getting one, so I'll have to buy something to store it and get it to and from the range.

You can get a serviceable pistol case for about $8. However, if you want something for going to the range, you would probably want a range bag that will allow you to also carry extra ammunition as well as hearing/eye pro. Those can be found for $20 and up, depending upon size and features.

I wouldn't leave handguns in foam lined plastic cases, or long guns in cases either. The foam or whatever kind of lining will absorb and hold moisture.
I've seen a lot of deer rifles and shotguns that guys kept for months in a foam lined case, and they came out covered with surface rust.

Not that a little bit of moisture would hurt a stainless/polymer S&W with FDE Cerakote over the metal !
If my guns don't come with Cerakote, even stainless guns, I put Cerakote on them, like this stainless Mini-30 and my .45 Shield.
Stainless might be corrosion resistant, but raw stainless is a bit to shiny for me.

As far as "foam" attracting moisture and resulting in surface rust... OK, I agree. That said, so do guns left in cotton/flannel socks, etc. The ONLY way I understand on how to mitigate moisture is by using desiccant and recharging same on a regular basis. I have kept rifles in a cotton flannel sock in a cedar chest for over 50yr with little to NO surface rust. Just pay attention and all will be fine with the World... ;)

FWIW, even in high-dollar gun safes, guns are padded with foam (and/or foamed backed cloth) for protection from nicks/scratches AND rust. Desiccant is the only answer, rechargeable or single-use it does not matter. We all just have to keep monitoring our storage on a regular time frame.

PLUS, just don't own more guns than you shoot on a regular basis!...:D;):rolleyes:

We all often have differing opinions on these forums, that doesn't mean either of us are wrong.

You have kept guns in flannel lined socks for years with no issues, because you kept on top of things and inspected your guns on occasion.
Those guys that put their guns in a case (probably a bit damp to begin with) didn't look at them all year until just before the next hunting season, and they were surprised as heck that they had rusted.

I've never seen foam in safes, high end or otherwise, but they are lined with sheetrock ( for fire resistance) and have felt over that.
We've all seen wet sheetrock near a bathroom leak, so sheetrock can hold moisture too.

As you said, desiccant is the key. I have a large Remington unit that I plug in every month to recharge (dry it out).
I also keep a desiccant pack in each GI ammo can.

Shields came in cardboard box, 2.0 M&P9C plastic case, received it in March
