So I caught the bug and wanted to get another toy. Walked in thinking Glock 23 or XD. I was just going to look because I hadn't really done any homework. Impulse buy! The SD felt perfect in my hand compared to the others so I bought it. I came home hopped on line to see not only did I over pay for it but according to everything online I bought "a lower quality gun". It's use will be home protection, having fun with targets and eventually a CCW. How bad did I screw up? I also have a S & W 915.

Well you said it felt perfect in you hand, so there's a big plus. Always an important, if not most important part of a handgun. As far as "lower quality gun" while you will find people that may claim this, I think you will have a hard time finding proof of this.Take it to the range and find out for yourself. as for paying too much, only you know. Just remember, the people who say that they can get it online cheaper usually don't factor in the shipping and handling, or transfer fees. Plus a lot of people don't mind spending alittle more in support of their local dealer. Again, take it to the range and make up your mind,I don't think you will be disappointed.

Welcome to the forum!

You're not the one who paid too much at all! You done good man!

One thing you must learn about gun forums is this: If you say you paid $1 for something, some cowboy will respond by saying he paid 75 cents wherever he buys his guns.

Enjoy your gun!

I just ordered one -- I already have a SD9 -- at what I think is a good price. (I look for bargains, but once I spend money on cars, guns, stuff, etc., I never look back. There ALWAYs is a cheaper price, but often there is a hook to it).

My SD9 is very nice -- I expect the SD40 to be the same. Lower quality? Not at all - compares favorably to my M&P 9, 40, and 45. And its a S&W, so it is backed up by the best customer service (if needed) in the business. The materials, fit, and finish are excellent.

You have to keep in mind this is a striker-fired gun and will never have a trigger that is like "breaking a glass rod." I have lightened and improved the triggers on the M&P's by adding Apex hard sears and universal striker block kits -- there is, at the moment, nothing comparable for SDs. The SD trigger pull is, as you know, relatively long and heavy. (This is a much discussed topic -- I raise it here only to point out it is not a QUALITY issue, it is a by-product, to some extent, of the striker-fired design, and, to some extent, of S&W's engineering for enhanced security in what is billed as a self-defense weapon).

Enjoy your SD! This is one of the best values-for-money on the market!

I have the SD9 and love it, no problems and feels great in the hand.

If you listen to internet opinions, you will probably never buy anything again...there are always detractors of any brand, and there are those who feel if you don't pay $2000 for a gun, it can't possibly be any good, or if it isn't made of steel, and so on.

Just like beauty, value is in the eyes of the beholder. :)

Thanks all! I finally got to take it out over the weekend. I put about 100 rounds through it without issue. I had a chance to watch a few other friends have a couple of jamming issues with there toys (I won't mention brands but they weren't SW). My 915 and SD40 worked flawlessly all day long.
