I bought one back in the 80's but sold it a few years ago to offset my S&W expenses. I still have my dad's custom mauser actioned rifle in 257 he had built when he got back from WWII. I got my first deer with it at age 10. Great caliber that was all but lost for awhile.
The 257 is a good cartridge. Kinda gets over looked today.
No but's about it. You know what to do!!!

Did the same thing a few weeks ago, traded a Win. Model 54 in 257 Roberts, with Bishop or Fajen stock and period correct Weaver 1.5 x 4.5 scope to 'feed' my 1911 addiction!
Got one just like that beauty but in 270. 257 Bob is a great cartridge. It's just about ideal for PA whitetails! I've got two, a nice old Ruger 77 and a custom Mauser 98 sporter built by Johnson Automatics.
A friend of mine has the same but in .308. I think he mounted a scope, a few shots to zero, and that's it. Doubt if has been out of his safe for 30 years.

Back in the late 50s one of my father's friends bought a Remington pump in 257R. He took it up into Canada and shot everything with it, moose, Brown bear, I believe even a walrus. I saw him shoot a large sea lion in the water and it was a head shot, pulled that seal completely out of the water and back 6-7 feet. A remarkable cartridge. My close friend has two mod 70s pre 64s in 30-06 NIB one regular one featherweight. Bought them new and just put them away.
