N frame smooth target S&W grips listed on a famous grip auction site currently with six days left ( not mine ). At twelve bids it's over 411.00. Maybe those guys paying 2k to 3k for their model 27's finally found the grips they want.

Unless there's something rare or special about them I have no explanation other than a urination contest between bidders.

They should be selling for $500+,You can buy Cokes for that much and smooth non relieved Targets are much harder to find.

Wow! With the prices that high, you'd think there would be a market for some skilled carver to make absolute perfect reproductions 1 at a time. I know they wouldn't be authentic, but that's some pretty expensive wood.

There are some skilled grip artists right here on this forum, but collectors pay the top dollar for originals.

If that's the case I'll put replacement grips on all my s&w and sell the orginal grips for $400 a set? I could take a nice vacation. Kidding but think about it?

If your making one m27 politically correct grip wise that's ok but lookout for the shills. Or the icebreakers.

Presentation type perhaps? My Gawd, 40 years ago I lived 20 miles from the factory. I got smooth rosewoods installed on a K22 with a target hammer for something like $40! Gun was about $100 or less, of you could find one. You stopped at the guard gate, told them your business. At the time, they told me to ask for a gent named Frannie Longtin. An hour later you were gone. He was a fine gentleman. He fitted the hammer and/or trigger while you waited. I was 21, I miss those days. They were like friends. Took a 4" 19-4 in for 6" barrel, they stripped a nickel one, blued it and installed it, fantastic job, anything to please a customer. I asked him about barrel lengths, Francis said "you can't keep up with it, one day it's 8 3/8", next it's 2 1/2", then 6 1/2", then back to 4". So glad to have experienced that now, but didn't think much of it then. How lucky I was and never realized it.

You are correct. Fran Longtin was a great guy to deal with as I made several trips there for target triggers and hammers. He once installed a smooth combat trigger in a 5" 27 with the promise that I would like it much better, he was right.
If I remember correctly the marble lobby was decorated with plush leather furniture, a great place to lounge around. Times sure have changed.

I used to work for a company that provided a particular service. Business was good, but someone suggested we triple our prices. We thought it was nuts. A year later, the same guy gave us the same suggestion and we tried it, figuring we only needed 1/3 the work at 3x the price to break even. Well, we tripled our business at the higher price without changing a thing other than what we were asking.

In other words, perceived value is just as important as actual value.

they are nice looking grips, but…….that is a lot of money, and only 6 days left.

Semper Fi!
