K-22 Combat Masterpiece

One of my local honey holes had 2 pre-18s and a 17-5 that I've been looking at for a long while. Now only 1 pre-18 & a 17-5.

Since I got my K-22 I've been on the lookout for a 4" something, a M17 or M18. Today I decided to get more serious about making a decision and went to look, again. I'm surprised they've been there as long as they have.

I picked the earlier Combat Masterpiece, no T's, the later one had a target hammer. The stocks are correct, but not numbered to the frame.

LOL, darn no .22LR, "oh, next Wed. if you get here early". 'But I wanted to shoot my new to me Pre-18 this weekend' "oh, you bought the Pre-18, how much ammo you want?" Lesson learned, if I need .22 ammo, I just need to by a 22 firearm from these folks. They have a stash for purchasers so you don't leave empty !

Nice, Jimmy. I love my K22 but have always nursed a secret yen for the Combat version. It is really the only hole that needs to be filled in my collection.

Other than needing a cleaning, that is one nice .22 there.

That looks like a twin to the one I picked up recently and I really like shooting it. Mine is about 4000 #s earlier, the stocks number to it, and came with an older Colorado Saddlery basket weave holster. I had a 18-? at one time, let it go and later regretted it.

Other than needing a cleaning, that is one nice .22 there.

LOL, not sure it had been cleaned in a very long time, which is a good thing, IMO. You can see the lead buildup above the gap in the first 2 pics. I could flick off some of the lead deposits with a tooth pick. Took it apart and slathered everything up with Hoppes and let it sit overnight. Spent the morning with my soft copper scraper and some Chore-boy strands cleaning it up, now I can get it dirty and packed with lead & wax myself.
Cleaned the K-22 while I was at it.

The yoke has been stretched, it has almost no end shake and the tightest cylinder to barrel clearance I've eye-balled. Even with all the crude buildup there was no binding so I'm not worried about it being too tight. It's a shooter.

I'm really going to enjoy this one. May have to get a 4" M15 for it to buddy up with.
