Hi guys. Located a pristine NIB 14-4 in 8 3/8" (still has the factory grease on it) 14-4 with original box, TH, TT, TS and all paperwork.

Serial is 34K9XXX. I'mthinking 1979 DOB, can anyone confirm please?

Asking price is $550.00. Thoughts on this price. This would be a queen, not to be fired. I'd prefer a pre-14 K-38 but this showed up locally.

I don't recall if the tool kit was in the box or not. If not what is the proper tool kit for this vintage?

If I recall it is pinned but not recessed.

Any info. would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Have fun and be safe.

Go back and grab it! Tool kit should be a cleaning rod, bore mop and screw driver in a plastic sleeve.

K-38

Wow, some of us would call that a "Safe Queen". Don't get too excited when purchasing or he(she) might up the price. Congrats...

Good price, you will not regret, it you can not buy a gun of that quality brand new today for that price. I have a 14-3 6" that is a joy to shoot. Buy it and enjoy it, take good care of it because it will only go up in value.

Nightshade2X, the DOB looks right. I don't think any Smith .38's ever had recessed cylinders (correct me if I'm wrong fellas - I'm no expert on the Model 14's but am confident none of the other .38's ever had them - I know my model 10, 12 & 15, all 2 inchers w/ pinned barrels, don't have them). The pinned barel would of course be correct, given the approx year of manufacture.

I'm guessing on what tools may have come w/ it, but if it's in a cardboard box (as I suspect), I would guess a reeaaallly long cleaning rod & a screwdriver for the sights.

It does sound like a real beauty! Enjoy!

Thanks guys for all the great info. I went back yesterday to look at it again.

While looking it over I mentioned that the cleaning kit was missing. The owner came back with a kit he said was sitting on his desk. It was missing the screwdriver...after a few more minutes of digging it turned up too...

So the full package was there...gun NIB, box, all paperwork original to the gun, the anti-corrosive paper, full tool kit...

I talked him down from $550 to $500 and it went home with me. I'll post up some pictures when I have a chance but for now it's resting in the safe with the rest of it's 8 3/8" S&W brethern.

I think I got a great deal on a wonderful gun!

Have fun and be safe.

Congratulations as that's a great gun at a great price and they generally shoot like laser beams.

Magnums and 22LR S&W pistols were the only ones with recessed chambers.

Well I finally had some time to sit down with it and clean it up a bit. The following pictures represent 2 coats of Ren. wax on the stocks and one coat on the gun itself. I'm very happy with the results. Overall I'm extremely pleased with the purchase.

Stealin' guns from poor unsuspecting gun dealers is a high missdeemeanor don'tchaknow!!

That's a beaut!!

That is gorgeous, a site to behold (nice pics)...just think, some nice gentleman cared for it over the past 30 years, now that's your honor (and pleasure).

Enjoy! (it looks like it's in good hands)

That's a beautiful gun. I have the same model along with a matching
.22. Shame you're not going to shoot it; I have a lot of fun with mine!

What a beauty! Congratulations! That's one fabulous revolver.

I have a 98% 14-4 in six-inch. Just as accurate as my K-22 five-screw, but (to me) more enjoyable to shoot.
