Hey all.

I am needing advice about grips on my m65 in 3-inch. My factory grip panel cracked and I had to find a replacement. I did have a T-grip on the factory grips, but no more since the crack in one side.
The ones I have now are a hard rubber that resemble the Hogue compact style wood grips with 2 grooves for your middle and ring finger. I don’t know what brand they are, they came with it when I bought it years ago as a police trade in. These grips just won’t let me get a full and comfy grip on it. Seems like I can’t get high enough on it to be comfortable. So, I need another solution.

I’d like to know which ones would be most comfy with self defense loads….likely 38 Special +P instead of full house .357.

Here’s my choices….

1. Factory panels with the Tyler’s T-Grip
2. Pachmayr Compac round butt
3. Pachmayr Compact Pro with exposed back strap.
4. Hogue Bantam Rubber. The ones that are $25 or so.

Those are the main ones under consideration. I don’t have big hands….more like medium sized.

What do you think?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Larry I have posted this elsewhere but the Hogue bantam grips are AWESOME. No screw … it is a compression fit - follow package directions or watch Hogue video online. They don’t grab my clothing like Pachmyers. Or would recommend vintage Uncle Mikes grips -Craig Spegel designs. Prices are up on them - check internet sites. There are a couple of different styles. Uncle Mike’s Boot grips on the 66 - Hogue Bantam on the 65. I also have medium size hands. Either of these grips will feel great to you in my opinion. Both handle defensive magnum loads comfortably.

+1 on the old Uncle Mike's grips if you can find them (and the set you're describing aren't them), but otherwise I'd go with Pachmayr Compacs or Compacts. The Compacs will be a bit comfier thanks to their covered backstrap, but the Compacts will look a little nicer IMO. Modern Pachmayr fit leaves a bit to be desired when it comes to where the front halves of the grip meet, but they still feel great and look the nicest with their checkering and medallions. I never liked the look of the dotted/stippling pattern that Hogue uses.

I like the older Pachmayrs without the emblem...the earlier ones seem to fit the frame better. These are early Compacs on a round-butt 3" K.

Thank you all for the advice.
I’ll take my grips off in the daytime and see if I can get a brand on them. I’ll post a pic with the info so you all can tell which ones I’m using now.

It looks like the Compac grips are the most comfy from my list.

Just out of curiosity, how do the factory wood panels with the T-Grips feel under carry load recoil? I’ve only shot mild Target type loads with them. I admit though, they are my favorite as far as looks go. In my searching for grips though, I have seen quite a few very beautiful grips for my pistol. Prices on these sometimes gets up to near $300 for exotic type materials like ivory and the mammoth tusks and such. The stag grip panels are also beautiful. I have toyed with the idea of getting a set of the simulated stag or faux Buffalo horn grips. I don’t think it would work cause every time I looked at them I’d be wishing I had got the REAL thing.

Be back with info soon.

Unfortunately, grips fall into the category of what is great for me might be lousy for you. The only way to find out what would be “most comfy”is to try them. Ask your buddies what stocks they have on their revolvers. Borrow them and try them. If you see someone at the range with a different grip, ask about it.

My favorite on K frames is either a modified target stock or magnas with a grip adapter.

I'm a big fan of T-Grips (2" Model 12-2) and the BK Grips (4" Model 65-1).

Sent with some arcane communications device.

I like the factory grips with a Tyler. For me, they do a better job of mitigating recoil than the Uncle Mike's, except when I switch hands; then, my left (weak) hand like's the UM's, for the 2 or 3 cylinders it gets to shoot.

The magnum revolvers I use are equipped with Pachmayr rubber grips. The .38 Special 2" Model 64 I carry frequently has factory magnas with a Tyler T-grip adapter.

Works for me. Your methods may vary.

Houge bantoms get my vote, hands are medium size and I run a full 250 range day full of magnums with out any discomfort, and they just fit so right !

I’m a fan of the Pachmayr Compact Pro grips.

Compact, recoil absorbing but not as sticky as Hogue or Uncle Mike grips.

Pre or post medallion, I like them both.

Hey all.

I just took the grips off to see what they were. I’ve never heard of these grips before, but that doesn’t say a whole lot.

Not a mark or indication of anything in the outside. Inside there is a circle with the info on each side. One side says MIDWEST INDUSTRIES with an address in the USA. On the other panel inside the circle says BYRON’S….SWK ROUND.

They have the same finger grooves as the one GFORS posted above. The finger grooves in his might be a tad bigger though.
I just cannot seem to get a high enough grip hold on these grips.

I’d like to get a really nice set of grips, maybe something like the Hogue wood boot grips style. There are others too. I am not gonna spend a lot of money in grips that I don’t know how they’re gonna feel to me. I’d hate to spend $90 on a set of grips that don’t fit my hand like I want.

Like was posted earlier…grips are a subjective thing and it’s not easy to find the right set when you’re not familiar with them.

Here’s a pic.

Hey all.

I just thought of this and I’ll throw it out there.

If anyone has a set of the Pachmayr Compac Pro, Pachmayr Compac or the Hogue Bantam Rubber, the $24 ones, that are in the “parts box” that you’re not using, if you don’t mind it, I’d like to try them and see how I like ‘em.

You can send them to me and I’ll try them and send them back to you. I’ll pay the shipping on both ends. It can’t be much at all….maybe $3 or so.

It would be worth it to me to get to feel them without buying them and maybe having to return them.

Just a thought. If you don’t care to help, PM me and we’ll work something out.

Thanks again.

Like shoes, underwear and backpacks, completely subjective. You'll simply have to try a few different grips.

I like smooth magna style stocks with a T grip. I like the way I can draw it from a holster better than a full width rubber grip. And it still keeps the trigger guard from hurting my knuckle during recoil.
