I recently purchased SN 622030. Factory nickel in excellent condition. (Sorry for the poor pics). The stocks match the gun wear wise but I see no evidence of the serial number on the right panel. Marks from the frame on the right panel make me believe they have been on the gun a long time. My question is are these early replacements, or original and somehow not numbered? Best guess anyone?

Those stocks are correct for the period in which your gun was likely shipped: 1st quarter 1934. I can't explain why there is no serial stamp on the right panel. Check it closely for a penciled number which was the older practice which should have ended in the latter 1920's. Since it was S&W's practice to fit the stocks to each gun, no serial indicates they are replacements, IMO.

I usually check the contour of the grips at the heel and toe of the grip frame. This is where fitting of the panels really shows up best. Also take multiple photos of the right panel using different lights and angles. No matter the outcome you have an extremely nice revolver there.

Thanks for the info! I was hoping they were original and I had an all matching gun. That said I was planning on putting different stocks on for range use now I need to find a grip adapter for it. Anyone make a good period correct reproduction?

There is a guy on Ebay that makes them...Somebody posted on here the other day. I think they go by Robertson Trading Post. I bought two sets for a Model 64 and a Model 15 and they both look and fit great...

Not an endorsement for the seller, but I like 'em and shipping was quick...Apparently WAYYY quicker and cheaper than another well known alternative.
