Last week I ran across a k22 sn k107xxx
I didn't take a pic and dont remember last 3 numbers...
Gun is in great shape however the grips have been changed...
Wondering how hard finding period correct ones will be
Thanks al
Not very hard, diamond magnas from the period show up regularly on eBay and elsewhere; $50-$100 depending on condition and how many folks happen to want them.
Also the barrel and cyl were #ed to gun...would the star be #ed?....
of course the grips arent.
Also the front sight was a brass bead....thinking this was ordered this way?
Target trigger and hammer I think...
I am stopping my the LGS later today will take some pics
thanks again
Al
(You should probably invest in getting it lettered to find how it left the factory if you want to restore it to as-shipped condition)
may just do that....wondering if it originally could have had bigger target stocks....which is why they were changed?...
did they even offer big stocks in place of the smaller magnas?
took another look at this....i was off a bit on sn its K106154
here are some pics and of frt sight
thanks al
You should especially be fondling the front sight----which at least appears to be a McGivern Bead---arguably the very best of any and all of the bead sights-----and seldom seen---at least by these old eyes of a sight junkie.
It's the best, if indeed I've called it correctly-----a semi-spherical gold bead. It's that shape which reflects light from any of the 180 degrees behind the shooter---sheer genius!
Ralph Tremaine
I see Spajohn was quicker on the draw while I was huntin' and peckin'------and with pictures and descriptions yet!
Thanks for the help....I did buy but it but wont be able to go back and pick it up for acouple weeks....thinking without org grips I paid up for it at 550 otd...but I still like it...
al
Pic her up....star is numbered to gun...
also here is a pic of a 3 digit "repair/rebuild date"? on grip
178 so I assume Jan 1978....Thinking this may have been when the trigger was changed....and possibly a reblue?...makes all the more reason to have lettered?
love the history

This was my dad's K22, shipped October 24, 1950. No bead, too bad, but everything else original. Yours probably came along not too long after. I never touched any adjustments and it's still dead on if I do my part.
You actually did pretty good at $550. Regarding the grips, perhaps leave it alone, and my gut says the original grips were likely worn or damaged at the time of the factory service in the 1970's and replaced with what would have been the current style at that time? So unchanged since factory service do to speak. As a refinished gun it doesn't have nearly the value an original with matching grips would ( which would of cost you somewhere between double and triple what you paid typically) though the fact it is a factory refinish is less damaging to the value than a refinish done outside the factory.
Go shoot and enjoy it !
