You have a very nice K22. For $550 I would have grabbed it myself. I have no problem at all with factory refinish from that era. The gun is priced well below one with an original finish. I have one made in 1950 with the original Smokey gray finish that the early 50s guns originally had. It also has the original numbered to gun magnas. It shoots great and is the centerpiece of my K target collection.

While not original your gun has a beautiful factory applied refinish that actually is blue and not black oxide like what they offer today.

I would say that for stocks you can either try to find a set of diamond magnas in this sn range or go with target stocks. My father bought a new K-22 in March of 1952 and the first thing that he did was put on a set of S&W Target stocks with the center diamond and no relief cut on the left panel. The stocks went with the gun when he sold it. I still remember how nice that handled with those stocks. I am not sure what an early pair of walnut K targets goes for now but they would look great on that gun.
A newer pair of rosewood or Goncalo Alves targets would also look great. This is a beautiful K-22 that you can enjoy shooting. I also have a .22 Combat Masterpiece and another K-22, both from the early 70s. They are great guns.

Good luck with yours.

Thanks for all the help/input....since the grips that are on it now dont fit very well, thinking I will try and find a period set that hopefully fit better
And will check on lettering it to find out about the trigger
love the history
