Congratulations Miles42. I guess you know, we all love to see pictures of new acquisitions; especially NIB examples like yours! :)

Well done, while mine has minor bit of wear it was offered at a price I couldn't say no to. I probably smile more shooting mine than any other revolver I own.

My -3 (1971) only came with the original number magnas but I got the period correct targets here on the forum, fit my hand much better.

Congratulations, Miles42!
Good taste in S&W.......
Several years ago I was looking for one. I found two at the same place at the same time, both pre-model, and in original boxes. I figured I would sell one and keep the other. They are both still sharing space in the safe. I'd add a third if it came along......

Congrats OP on that excellent find!

My 17-3 is also 1971 and came with 3T's right from the factory.

Wonderful shooter, excellent trainer for the younger kids.

Need to see some pics, especially when you found a "complete package" and I too use estate sales as a primary source when "in the hunt"

All this time I've thought my standard barrel, narrow rib 1948 vintage K-22 was all the 22 revolver I would ever need, but these 17-2 and -3 models sure are getting tempting. I'll have to stage a self intervention here if it gets much worse!

Mr Green -

I was in your shoes ... I had an early 30's .22 Outdoorsman , a MKI , and a Single Six ; thought I was all set for .22 handguns. Eventually I fell prey to the siren song of the S&W mod.17 - got the long barreled option w/ the 3 "T's" , and I could not be happier about it. Intervention? You don't need no stinkin' intervention!

IMO , everyone who appreciates revolvers needs to own a 17!

Miles - you got yours at 75 , I bit at 65. Congratulations to you. Many happy range trips await you.

I love my 17-3 with the TH and TT. For stocks I prefer the smooth Jerry Miculek style.

Did someone say 17 no dash? [emoji23]

Seriously tho, everyone should own at least one M17! Mine is from about 1960 and is relatively new to me with the 3T's. And I waited too long to get one also (61).

went to an auction picked one up new in box from an estate sale. Always wanted one. Finally at age 75 I filled a bucket list item. time running short list is long. lol

WELCOME TO THE FORUM, YOUNG FELLA.....

CONGRATULTIONS ON YOUR FIND. ITS NICE TO READ THAT YOU ARE STILL IN THE GAME.....

BEST WISHES......

I've had 2 M-17's. A -3 & a -4. Got the -3 over 30 years ago and gave it to a good friend in AZ.
16 years ago after I stumbled upon a M14 3T & M17-4 at a price I couldn't refuse.

I prefer not having either the Target Trigger or Target Hammers.
Gotta have a Target grip though, and take 2-1/2 coils off the trigger rebound spring!
That makes the smooth trigger pull lighter yet still pops .22's reliably.

Miles42: Boy oh Boy can I relate to Your Story about buying a S&W K-22 17-2 & 17-3. And also turning 75 years of age. I bought my first S&W K Model 14-3 in 1970. At Fort Rucker AL, while I was going to the Army's Helicopter Flight School. It was a used 6 inch barreled K-38 with Herrett Target Grips on it and to me, it was just absolutely beautiful. And that Old Gun made even me look like a good pistol shot. And I have shot it alot over the years and I still have it. But I always wanted a nice K-22. But I always put it off for one reason or another. Well finally with in the last 2 years I bought a 6 inch S&W K-22 17-2 and a 17-3 as well.
They are both just truly beautiful guns to me and outstanding shooters as well. I can't began to tell you just how much I have enjoyed shooting both of them and they shoot so very well. I missed out on a lot, waiting so long to buy myself a nice K-22. But I am trying to make up for lost time. Oh by the way I will
turn 75 years old the 20th of this month.

A K-22 is a revolver shooters must have!

They make you a better shot as they shoot cheaper and one
can get more experience and get the same results. K-22's allow
you to refine your grip, aim, trigger pull easier and quicker that with
a larger caliber.

When I got into revolver shooting in the 70's, I read a ton of Skeeter Skelton's stories about 5" M27's and 6" M17 "K-22"'s. My first handgun was a M28-2 6", and my third was a "K-22" M-17-3 6". The K-22 taught me how to shoot a handgun accurately.

Skeeter was right!

Love the Model 17 "K22 Masterpiece" and it's never too late to acquire a fine firearm. These 17's are a joy to shoot for everyone, both small and large.

Here's mine.
