Anyone ever seen this checkering pattern before?
The gun appears to be a 6 digit K serial, grip mounting screw is backwards, diamond looks thin ...guessing they began life as something different ?

Spanish copies with S&W medallions added perhaps? The backsides of the stocks may tell more.

They appear to be early 50's magnas, probably with plastic medallions. I have a set that was modified in a somewhat similar fashion, but with a different checkering pattern. These also had the plastic medallions which melted when I attempted to clean them with acetone. Mine are thinner than normal; probably were modified by someone with small hands. I think that I prefer your checkering pattern.

Yes definately looks like 1953 plastic medallions !
The checkering pattern is almost pre war at the bottom but unlike any pre or post war pattern I have ever seen at the top,
Shoulders are high so consitent with 1953...perhaps sanded and re checkered ?

Does the grip screw have S&W's proprietary thread pitch ? ( Try a screw from a known pair of S&W factory grips and see if it will fit the subject grips. ) Ed.
