K22 thoughts

I took a chance on this early K22. The seller was very upfront that the right stock had a chip and the barrel had a slight bulge. When I got it I found the chip is reparable and the bulge is not visible but can be felt. Accuracy is moment of soda can at 15 yards offhand. While doing a clean/lube I found the grip frame had a S stamp as well as the barrel flat and the underside of the ejector star and the blue on the barrel and cylinder is darker and brighter than the frame.
Post war S&W was cranking out revolvers as fast as possible. Does anyone think this one could have been shipped with the blemished barrel?

By 'blemished', if you're referring to the bulge, I'd think it would be highly unlikely that it left the factory that way. Can you see a ring in the bore where the bulge is? There's only one way a barrel can get a bulge in it, and that would be from a squib round being fired, and with successive shots fired into the obstructed barrel. Especially with rimfire ammo, factory squibs aren't totally unheard of.

IIRC, somewhere in the past, I read where a plain S on the barrel flat indicated that the gun was returned to the Service Department before it ever left the factory for the first time. You know, back in the day when quality control meant something.
