I was watching a program I had recorded and they were explaining that the Kahr P9 had a trigger like a revolver and didn't need a safety. Does the gun have "second strike capabilities" or does it just have a long trigger pull? Will someone please tell me? Larry

I Binged that question (ok, I used Google, but I like to use Bing as a verb).

KAHR PM9 9mm

"There are no external safeties on Kahr pistols. The striker block immobilizes the partially cocked striker and deactivates only with a complete trigger stroke. Kahr’s have no second-strike capability, requiring the slide to cycle to pre-cock the striker."

In that way they operate like a Glock, or just about every DAO S&W 3rd gen gun.

Honestly, if I pull the trigger and nothing happens in a gunfight I'll be tappin, rackin' and ready to send some more lead downrange. I doubt the round will go off with a second strike if it didn't go off the first time.

That's what I get for not refreshing the page :D

If it doesn't have "second strike capabilities" it isn't like a revolver and it isn't DA. On a DA auto and a DA revolver the gun is not cocked and the trigger cocks and fire the gun. According to y'alls answers the slide cocks the gun which means the gun is always cocked. Having a long trigger pull is not the same as a DA trigger. Thank y'all for your answers. I didn't see an outside hammer and I was curious how it worked. Larry

I think they say that because it doesn't have that typical poly frame snapping green twig feel to the trigger. They do in fact feel a lot more like a DA revolver but that's just it, it's only in feel. Also the slide only partially resets the striker and the trigger does the rest.

Many "DAO" semis are like the Kahr. IIRC the S&W 3953 is the same, and probably others in the S&W Gen III line.

The only second strike semi-autos I can think of are some Taurus models and the Browning BDM.

The Kahrs have a long, double action revolver like, trigger pull. Smoothest trigger I have every felt, be it Colt, Smith and Wesson, Dan Wesson, etc. Some don't like the fact that you have to go all the forward to re-set for a second shot. Having cut my teeth on a DA revolver, it doesn't bother me a bit. My PM9 with XS big dot sight is my EDC and my favorite gun.
