A few years ago I acquired (at a SWCA Symposium) a factory engraved (Paul Piquette?) 19-3. The dark targets on it didn't quite work. At another Symposium I bought some beautiful Keith Brown Kearsarge stocks with carved oak leaves but they weren't quite right for this gun either.

Last week Jebus35745 offered a set of Keith's target stocks in spalted maple. I think they've found a permanent home.

Party pooper here. I love the gun and I love the grips. I don't love the combination. I don't hate it but the combo does neither justice. Obviously just my opinion and mine appears to be a minority opinion so carry on.

That's what makes a market, a difference of opinion. Here's the gun with its original smooth targets and with the KB Kearsarge's. I much prefer the spalted maple and those stocks are extremely comfortable, not that that one will see much range time with any of the stock options. If you don't like the spalted maple on an engraved 19, where do you think those would work better?

Jeff:

Each of those grip sets looks great to me! The sculpted design of the Maple grips is one of my favorite designs and I find them to be super comfortable to grab on to. One of my favorite features of S&W revolvers is that with the removal of one grip screw, and the replacement of another, a whole different look can be had. As a collector of stocks and a collector of guns, I LOVE playing "musical grips" with my revolvers - tons of entertainment value.:D:) Case in point - a 44 Magnum engraved by Andrew Bourbon...

... and I think that today it sports a totally different set of stocks.:rolleyes:

your engraving needs some presentation style grips (look like speed loader cut-outs on both sides). I'd keep a look out for some.

I like the oak leaf, but the contrast of the maple is interesting too. The smooth targets...not so much, yawn.

Now Richards checkered targets look awesome, but prolly better suited for a longer bbl'd gun.

The combo looks fantastic, I would leave them on it. Heck I just had them sitting on the shelf in the safe. These were made specifically to follow the engraving by Keith, again he did fantastic. Larry

As someone mentioned I like the pistol and I like the wood. But I believe I would like the pistol More if I could see All the engraving (just once) hidden behind the wood.
I also believe I would like the wood More if they didn’t cover the engraving. If that makes any sense.

I am with ya.
Beautiful metal work and wood, but not sure about the shape of the grips.

There is very little of the engraving covered by the stocks. The original stocks, see post #9, have essentially the same coverage as the spalted maple ones. It's hard to tell that from the pictures but that is the case. Presentation stocks, the kind with the wide cut at the top on both panels would leave large areas with no engraving visible.
