Know Reciprocity Laws Thoroughly

Reciprocity is one thing; peaceable journey is another. He had a loaded firearm concealed on his person. Neither of his CCW licenses were good in NJ, therefore he was correctly arrested. Peaceable journey is for an unloaded weapon, locked in a compartment away from the driver of the vehicle.

Does anyone know if NJ recognizes an out of state police retiree to carry concealed with LEOSA certification?

If you don't know and follow the laws where you are standing, you can be arrested and convicted of TWS (traveling while stupid).
No matter what you and I think of certain state's laws, they can and do enforce them.

S.1132 enhances H.R.218. The NJ AG can now pound sand with his anti hollowpoint opinion.

That is interesting; I would still hate to be the first one to get "caught" with some. Knowing state government (retired with 31 years), information typically trickles downward at a glacial pace so I would bet this is not known by 99.99% of the LEO's that are actually on the road.

HR 218 / S.1132 exempts ammo for retired LEO's but not citizens, correct?

I just flipped through the NJ restrictive laws, it looks like you can own "hollow nose" ammunition and keep it at your home. And you can shoot it at the range or when hunting; of course it must be locked away and unavailable when transporting directly to or directly from the range...

Assuming of course you are a law-abiding citizen.....

I've heard about this for retired LEO, is there anything for retired Military? Is there anything afoot to give something similar to retired military (20 year, honorable discharge; not just 4 in and out).

Not at the Federal level, except for qualified military LEO. See OPM ruling for details.

Some states consider military service/training in regards to CHL. For example, OK will waive the range portion of the CHL class for being handgun qualified by the military.

I was stationed in Jersey. Not a great place. There IS a reason as to why the Statue of Liberty faces the opposite direction ;)

I have said it many times before and will say it again.

A State or Nation has the right to make laws that he legislature wants. We, as individuals, have the right to not visit these places. The residents of that area, if they do not like the laws, has the right to relocate.

I am serious about firearms, my gun collection and my Rights as a gun owner, shooter and other firearm related items. If the State in which I am residing makes laws contrary to my beliefs, I will move. There is nothing that holds a person to a certain location other than possibly as part of parole or probation. Those in NJ can relocate if the laws are not to their liking.

Unfortunately the man made several errors in judgement that he is gonna pay for, for the rest of his life. Sad but thats why you look into these things BEFORE you travel.

Why was his liscense suspended?? From reading the article-this guy sounds a bit like gecko45-just my impression mind you-but I still think there is something else there.
I agree with oldman45 on this one.

PS I re-read the article and it says he was sentenced to two years probation and surrender the gun-that sounds suspiciously like a misdemeanor probation to me-which in light of what I read seems to be a very reasonable resoloution of the event.
